The next chapter of Star Trek: Lower Decks arrives on June 11, 2025, and it brings more laughs, chaos, and surprising backstories. In issue #8, fans get a closer look at Captain Freeman’s younger days, and it turns out she wasn’t always the calm and confident leader we know today.

While spending time with her daughter Mariner, Freeman shares a wild memory from her early days in Starfleet. Back then, she was just another struggling ensign trying to survive tough missions and big personalities. The story picks up with Dr. Katherine Pulaski in charge of the U.S.S. Illinois during a face-off with a dangerous Romulan warbird.

Unfortunately, Pulaski’s past record with crashing ships continues to be a problem, and things don’t go smoothly. That’s when young Freeman and her fellow ensign Durango are thrown into the spotlight. If they want to save the crew, they’ll have to step up fast and take command, even if they’re not fully ready.

The comic is written by Tim Sheridan with art and cover by Robby Cook. Fans of the Lower Decks show will enjoy the mix of humor, action, and heart that makes the series so fun.

Star Trek: Lower Decks #8 promises another funny and exciting adventure that gives more depth to Freeman’s character while continuing to explore the quirky and lovable world of Starfleet’s underdogs.
