Prime Video Cancels Fan-Favorite Series After One Season Despite Perfect Rotten Tomatoes Score
Prime Video has canceled another original series after just one season, and the decision is surprising many viewers. The show received strong reviews from critics, earning a perfect score on Rotten Tomatoes, while also building a steady audience during its run on the streaming platform.
According to Deadline, the faith-based drama will not return for a second season. The cancellation comes despite the series performing well on streaming charts and gaining attention after becoming available to a wider Prime Video audience.
It’s Not Like That follows Malcolm, played by Scott Foley, a minister and father of three who is trying to rebuild his life after losing his wife. The story also focuses on Lori, played by Erinn Hayes, a divorced mother of two teenagers. As both characters deal with the challenges of becoming single parents, they begin forming a close connection while trying to figure out what comes next in their lives.
The cancellation is especially surprising because the show performed well based on the available streaming rankings. Unlike Netflix, Prime Video does not regularly share detailed viewership numbers, but the platform began releasing weekly global Top 10 rankings in June. It’s Not Like That reached No. 9 on the global chart and continued gaining attention. By July 7, the series had reached fifth place on the U.S. streaming chart and had remained in the U.S. Top 10 for 51 straight days.
The show’s strong performance also came during a period of expansion for Wonder Project, the production company behind the series. Prime Video and Wonder Project have already worked together on House of David, which has received two seasons, with a third season reportedly expected. However, both It’s Not Like That and House of David were originally approved under different leadership at Prime Video.

The series was created by Ian Deitchman and Kristin Robinson, who also served as showrunners with Garrett Lerner. The cast included J.R. Ramirez as Lori’s former husband David, along with Caleb Baumann, Cary Christopher, Leven Miranda, Liv Lindell, and Cassidy Paul.
The cancellation also leaves several storylines unresolved. The first season finale ended with Malcolm admitting his feelings for Lori, but only privately. At the same time, Lori was trying to decide whether her future was with her new boyfriend or her ex-husband. Without another season, viewers will not get answers about whether Malcolm ever reveals his feelings, what choice Lori makes, or how their families move forward.
The ending has left fans disappointed, especially because the show received widespread praise from critics. While Prime Video has continued to support major hits like The Boys, Reacher, and Invincible, several other original series have been canceled after only one season, including Countdown, The Runarounds, Butterfly, Cruel Intentions, and My Lady Jane.
Should Prime Video have renewed It's Not Like That?
For now, It’s Not Like That remains available to stream on Prime Video, but viewers hoping for a continuation of Malcolm and Lori’s story will have to imagine how the unfinished journey could have continued.
