Rayna Vallandingham Packs a Punch in Leather and Military Glam for ‘Street Fighter’ Press Run
Few movie campaigns demand as much contrast as an action film’s press tour. The stars spend weeks training and fighting on screen, then step into a very different world of glamour and photo shoots once release week arrives. For the cast of ‘Street Fighter,’ that switch is happening right now, and Rayna Vallandingham’s latest press photos show it better than most.
The video game reboot opened in US theaters Oct. 16 and has been the center of a busy promotional run. Directed by Kitao Sakurai for Paramount and Legendary, the film is set in 1993 and follows estranged fighters Ryu (Andrew Koji) and Ken Masters (Noah Centineo), who are recruited by the mysterious Chun-Li (Callina Liang) for the World Warrior Tournament.
Vallandingham, who plays the acrobatic fighter Juli, is the latest cast member to share new images from that run. In one photo she wears a black military-style jacket with braided trim over a black leather bandeau and low-slung jeans. Her hair is pinned up in a loose messy updo, and she completes the look with a smoky eye, a dark lip and a delicate pendant necklace. The second shot is a closer version of the same styling, with the jacket open and her hand resting at her waist.

The edgy look suits a performer who built her career on real combat skills. Vallandingham began training in taekwondo at age 2, earned her first black belt at 6 and became a world champion by 8. She now holds a fourth-degree black belt and 13 world championship titles.
Her path to Hollywood ran through Netflix’s ‘Cobra Kai,’ where she played the Iron Dragons student Zara Malik in the sixth and final season. She was then revealed as part of the ‘Street Fighter’ cast at The Game Awards on Dec. 11, 2025, making this film only her second major role.

In the movie she plays Juli, one of M. Bison’s deadly Doll agents. The character first appeared in ‘Street Fighter Alpha 3’ and is known in the games as a teenage fighter with exceptional acrobatic and martial arts training. Casting a real athlete means the production doesn’t have to rely only on choreography learned on set.

Vallandingham has also been outspoken about what the role means. Her mother is of Indian origin and her father is of Dutch descent, and she has said an action-heavy part like Juli is rare for South Asian actresses. She wants young girls watching her to see something she missed growing up, someone who makes their ambitions feel possible.
She also credits the training for changing how she feels day to day. Vallandingham said in an interview with The National that “it’s amazing to be strong and feel capable,” adding that she now feels safer walking alone at night after all the stunt and martial arts work.
‘Street Fighter’ topped the North American box office in its opening weekend with an estimated $31 million, and it added $20.1 million internationally for a worldwide debut of $51.1 million. That total is a franchise record in the US and beats the openings of the 1994 and 2009 films combined, although it fell short of the roughly $70 million global debut that was projected. The film reportedly cost $82 million to make.

Reviews have been mixed. The film sits at around 41% to 42% on Rotten Tomatoes from critics, while audiences are far kinder at 79%. Critics praised the leads, the action and the overall look, but criticized a sloppy script and juvenile humor.

For Vallandingham, the box office debate is only part of the story. A world champion who has gone from the dojo to a major franchise film is now fronting a press campaign with the confidence of a true action star, and her photos suggest she is enjoying every minute.
