Robert Pattinson Responds to Critics Who Claimed He Didn’t Train for ‘The Batman’ and Sets the Record Straight
Robert Pattinson has pushed back on the idea that he barely trained for The Batman, saying he actually worked out intensely while preparing for the role.
The actor addressed the criticism in a candid interview, reacting to the online chatter that questioned his physical transformation in the 2022 film. He said the reaction didn’t match the reality of his routine at all.
“Everyone was like: ‘You didn’t work out at all.’ I worked out every fucking day,” Pattinson said. “Even after that, I still look like I didn’t work out. I worked out twice a day at, like, three o’clock in the morning.”
He explained that the perception may have come from comments he made during interviews while promoting the film, where he joked about exercise and didn’t take the typical superhero training narrative too seriously. Looking back, he admitted that might have backfired. “I’m like, it’s just because I said it in an interview. I was trying to sound cool!”
Pattinson also said he has been continuing his training in preparation for The Batman: Part II, which is expected to go into production soon. However, he noted that he hasn’t even received a full schedule yet, despite hearing that filming could involve long night shoots. “And I just heard from the stunt guy the other day. He said, ‘11 weeks of nights.’ I’m like, ‘Excuse me?’ I’m like, ‘No one’s even sent me a schedule.’”
The actor’s comments come as he continues a busy period in his career, balancing major film projects alongside personal life changes. He recently became a father with partner Suki Waterhouse, and he spoke briefly about how that has shifted his routine. He said life has become more structured and calmer compared to earlier years.
“I’m a little more relaxed about a lot of different things,” Pattinson said. He added that parenthood has changed his energy levels and daily habits, even affecting how he views downtime and rest.
At the same time, Pattinson reflected on the intensity of his recent workload, including back-to-back major productions and collaborations with high-profile directors. He admitted that the pace of modern filmmaking has been overwhelming at times, especially when projects keep shifting or overlapping.
He also joked about how quickly public perception can form around actors, especially after major franchise roles. Despite his frustration, he seemed amused by the disconnect between audience expectations and reality.
The conversation also touched on his long-standing relationship with fame, which began when he starred in the Harry Potter franchise before becoming a global star through Twilight and later indie and blockbuster films. Over time, he has tried to balance big studio projects with smaller, more experimental roles.

Even with the noise around his Batman physique, Pattinson’s focus appears to remain on the work itself rather than public debate. His comments suggest a mix of humor and irritation, but also acceptance that online narratives often take on a life of their own.
As The Batman: Part II moves closer to production, his training routine is expected to ramp up again. For now, though, Pattinson seems more focused on managing expectations than proving anything to critics.
