Robert Pattinson’s Chris Hansen Transformation Gets a New Poster, and the Full Trailer Release Date is Revealed

Robert Pattinson has spent the better part of his post-‘Twilight’ career chasing characters who feel trapped inside worlds they don’t fully understand, from the criminal desperation of ‘Good Time’ to the fractured psyche of ‘The Lighthouse.’ It’s a pattern that has made him one of the more unpredictable A-list actors working today, someone as comfortable in blockbuster capes as he is in unsettling arthouse territory.

That pattern continues with ‘Primetime,’ A24’s upcoming drama-thriller that reimagines one of American television’s most controversial eras. Directed by documentary filmmaker Lance Oppenheim in his narrative feature debut, the film has been building quiet anticipation since its first teaser dropped back in May.

Now that anticipation is about to pay off. A24 has released a new poster showing Pattinson in full character as Chris Hansen, the former Dateline NBC correspondent who became a household name hosting “To Catch a Predator,” with the full trailer for the film set to arrive tomorrow.

The new poster leans into the eerie, media-saturated aesthetic that has defined the film’s marketing so far, carrying the tagline “Are you ready to make television history?” It’s a callback to the film’s official logline, which frames the story around Hansen’s efforts in 2006 to make “television history” through the hidden-camera confrontations that turned his docuseries into a cultural phenomenon.

Pattinson’s take on Hansen has already generated buzz for how unrecognizable his voice becomes in character. Critics who caught the initial teaser noted the actor adopting Hansen’s distinctive vocal patterns and mannerisms with startling precision, a signature move for an actor who has brought wildly different vocal choices to projects ranging from “The Devil All the Time” to “Mickey 17.”

The film marks Pattinson’s first full feature-producing credit, adding another layer of investment to a role that finds him channeling one of television’s more polarizing real-life figures. He’s joined in the cast by Merritt Wever, Skyler Gisondo, Phoebe Bridgers in her acting debut, and Bokeem Woodbine, among others.

‘Primetime’ has already secured a notable milestone ahead of its theatrical run, landing a spot in the main competition lineup at the 83rd Venice International Film Festival, where it will compete for the Golden Lion. The film is set to open nationwide in theaters on September 25.

That release date places ‘Primetime’ in a crowded fall lineup alongside major titles including Brad Pitt’s ‘Heart of the Beast’ and Marvel Studios’ ‘Avengers: Endgame Encore,’ though its Venice premiere ahead of the wide release could help it stand out during early awards season conversations. Despite acclaimed work in films like ‘The Lighthouse’ and ‘The Batman,’ Pattinson has yet to earn an Academy Award nomination, something industry watchers suggest this film’s positioning is designed to change.

The project also continues a packed year for the actor, who has already appeared in A24’s “The Drama” and Christopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey” in 2026. With the full trailer dropping imminently, fans will finally get their most extensive look yet at just how far Pattinson pushed this transformation.
