Rumor: ‘Doctor Strange 3’ Will Reportedly Serve as the Direct Prelude to Upcoming Avengers Movies

Share:

Ever since ‘Avengers: Endgame’ concluded the stories of Tony Stark/Iron Man and Steve Rogers/Captain America in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it was obvious that the franchise needed new central characters. Unlike the Infinity Saga, the ongoing Multiverse saga, even though we already concluded Phase 4, doesn’t seem to have a new central character, and fans have different opinions.

While Thor, one of the original Avengers, is still present in the franchise, popular fan choices for the next central character in the MCU are mainly Captain Marvel, Spider-Man, and Doctor Strange. While we don’t know what Marvel Studios has in store for them, it’s presumed that all of them will have large roles in the upcoming crossover event ‘Avengers: The Kang Dynasty,’ which is currently scheduled to be released in May 2026. And since the franchise is dealing with the Multiverse now, it makes plenty of sense that Doctor Strange will be one of the key characters.

A new rumor has teased the importance of ‘Doctor Stange 3’ in the Multiverse Saga!

‘Doctor Strange 3’ hasn’t been officially announced by Marvel Studios yet, but at 2022’s San Diego Comic-Con, Kevin Feige revealed that there’s plenty of room in the release schedule for projects that would be set in Phase 6. Currently, only Phase 6 projects that were officially announced are ‘Fantastic Four,’ ‘Avengers: The Kang Dynasty,’ and ‘Avengers: Secret Wars,’ which will conclude Phase 6 and the Multiverse Saga. Given the importance of the character, it makes plenty of sense that ‘Doctor Strange 3’ will be one of those still unannounced projects.

According to @DrStrangeUpdate, the upcoming ‘Doctor Strange’ threequel will serve as the direct prelude to upcoming ‘Avengers’ movies. The movie will reportedly now only depict Strange on another journey throughout the Multiverse but also present him as one of the Multiverse’s biggest threats by making him a common denominator.

The movie will also depict him as one of the main threats to the Council of Kangs, which explains how interconnected this movie might be with the upcoming ‘Avengers’ movies. Again, this is just a rumor since we don’t even know in which stage of development the movie is, so take all of this with a large grain of salt.

Benedict Cumberbatch debuted as Doctor Strange in the homonymous movie in 2016, which introduced the character prior to his return in 2017’s ‘Thor: Ragnarok,’ 2018’s ‘Avengers: Infinity War,’ 2019’s ‘Avengers: Endgame,’ and 2021’s ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home.’

In May 2022, a sequel ‘Doctor Strange in the ‘Multiverse of Madness,’ which put the Master of the Mystic Arts against the Scarlet Witch, was released, and it grossed $955.8 million worldwide, which certainly ensures another sequel, especially after the mid-credit scene introduced Charlize Theron as Clea, Dormammu’s niece, and Strange’s wife to be. Cumberbatch has already expressed his interest in returning to the role again, and we can’t wait to see what the franchise has in store for him in the future.

Are you looking forward to Doctor Strange’s eventual return to the MCU? Do you think he’ll have a large role in the upcoming ‘Avengers’ movies? Let us know in the comments.
