Rumors Reveal a Massive Plot Point for ‘Thunderbolts*’: “They’ve Been Set Up’
‘Thunderbolts*’ is just one of many upcoming projects scheduled to be released in 2025. Even though the movie doesn’t generate as much hype as ‘The Fantastic Four’ reboot or ‘Captain America: Brave New World,’ so far if the rumors are true it does have the potential to be an exciting start of a new franchise.
We know that ‘Thunderbolts*’ will introduce a new team to the MCU, one similar to DC’s Suicide Squad, and it looks like their stories will follow similar patterns.
According to Daniel Richtman, a notable scooper and leaker Yelena, the US Agent, Ghost, and Taskmaster are dispatched by Valentina Allegra de Fontaine to eliminate a target in a vault. Upon discovering they’ve been set up to die on this mission, they join forces against their boss to bring her down.
The target they’ve been sent to eliminate in the vault is most likely Sentry. Several weeks ago, Florence Pugh shared a video of the set and according to online chatter the team was filming a vault scene where Sentry was to be discovered, it’s likely that Val counted on Sentry to eliminate the team quickly.
Recently, we’ve covered that the movie will introduce OXE Group, the largest holding company in the world, led by Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, who is the Chairman. Valentina is also a member of the Kratos Club, a group of influential individuals with the goal of ensuring that their agenda is carried out regardless of obstacles. The exact nature of OXE/O.X.E. and its activities is not fully explored, but it is affiliated with the Outer Circle, a secretive group that influences global politics and governments.
In the comics, there are similarities with the Thunderbolts series, as characters like Bucky Barnes, Yelena Belova, and Alexei Shostakov are involved with O.X.E. Valentina’s questionable motives and the potential for betrayal are recurring themes. Bucky Barnes approaches Valentina about using O.X.E. to enact positive change in the world.
The film’s release date was moved to May 2, 2025, swapping with The Fantastic Four. Joanna Calo was tasked with rewriting the script, with earlier drafts focusing on the team’s mission, potentially resulting in their deaths.
