“S.W.A.T.” is getting a new chapter, and fans of the action franchise now know where they will be able to watch it. The upcoming spinoff series “S.W.A.T. Exiles” has officially found its U.S. home, with Starz picking up the show and setting a September premiere date.

The 10-episode series will arrive on Starz on September 25, bringing back Shemar Moore as Daniel “Hondo” Harrelson. The actor will once again lead the franchise, this time playing a character who is pulled back into action after being forced into retirement.

According to Deadline, Starz will be the exclusive U.S. home for the new series, while Sony Pictures Television has already secured international distribution deals across major markets around the world. The show will release weekly on Fridays and will also be available through the Starz app and the network’s streaming platforms.

Moore shared his excitement about the new series and thanked the team behind the franchise for continuing the story. “’S.W.A.T. Exiles’ is coming in hot! I couldn’t be more excited that Starz is bringing this next chapter to audiences in the U.S,” Moore said.

He added, “A huge thank you to Sony Pictures Television for believing in this franchise and continuing to invest in what we’ve built together.”

The new show will follow Hondo as he takes charge of a very different kind of S.W.A.T. team. After a major mission fails, Hondo is asked to lead a new experimental unit filled with younger recruits who have little experience. His challenge will be turning this group of outsiders into a real team while also trying to protect the future of the S.W.A.T. program.

The cast includes Lucy Barrett, Adain Bradley, Zyra Gorecki, Freddy Miyares, and Ronen Rubinstein. Fans of the original series will also see familiar faces return, with Jay Harrington coming back as Sergeant David “Deacon” Kay and Patrick St. Esprit returning as Commander Robert Hicks. David Lim will also appear again as Victor Tan.

Starz president Alison Hoffman said the series was a perfect fit for the network because of the franchise’s loyal audience. “’S.W.A.T. Exiles’ engages a deeply passionate fanbase that aligns strongly with our audience,” Hoffman said. “We’re thrilled to join forces with Sony to be the first place U.S. fans can experience this thrilling new chapter in the franchise.”

Jason Ning serves as showrunner and executive producer, with additional executive producers including Neal H. Moritz, Pavun Shetty, Shemar Moore, James Scura, and Jon Cowan. Sony Pictures Television will produce and distribute the series worldwide.

The spinoff comes after a long journey for the original “S.W.A.T.” series. The show first premiered on CBS in 2017 and faced several cancellations before finally ending after its eighth season. Shortly after the final cancellation, Sony announced plans to continue the franchise with “S.W.A.T. Exiles,” with Moore returning as the face of the new series.

Production moved quickly, with the show being developed, cast, and filmed in less than a year. Filming wrapped in February 2026, and the first episode was later shown to international buyers as Sony searched for distribution partners.

With Starz now officially behind the series, “S.W.A.T. Exiles” will continue the franchise with a new team, new challenges, and the return of one of its most popular characters when it premieres this September.
