Sam Mendes’ four-film Beatles project has generated near-constant buzz since its cast was first unveiled, and with production now underway, fans are getting their first extended glimpses of the actors physically becoming the icons they’re set to portray. The ambitious cinematic event will tell the Beatles’ story across four separate films, each centered on the perspective of one band member, with Paul Mescal, Harris Dickinson, Joseph Quinn, and Barry Keoghan playing Paul McCartney, John Lennon, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr respectively.

Beyond the four leading men, the project has assembled an equally stacked supporting cast, including Anna Sawai as Yoko Ono, Aimee Lou Wood as Pattie Boyd, and James Norton as the band’s longtime manager Brian Epstein. Among that group, Saoirse Ronan’s casting as Linda McCartney has drawn particular attention, given the Oscar-nominated actress’s track record of disappearing into transformative roles.

New set photos have now surfaced showing Ronan in character as Linda for the first time, with filming taking place in London’s St. John’s Wood neighborhood, notably close to Paul McCartney’s actual real-life home in the area. The images show Ronan dressed in period-accurate styling, capturing the look of McCartney’s first wife as production continues on what’s shaping up to be one of the most closely watched biopic projects in recent memory.

That level of authenticity extended even further on set, with a young actress also spotted alongside Ronan, apparently portraying one of the McCartney children during filming. Paul Mescal was seen on location as well, suggesting the crew is actively shooting scenes depicting the couple’s life together as part of the larger Beatles narrative.

Unlike a traditional single biopic, Mendes’ approach breaks the Beatles’ story into four interconnected films, with each one offering a distinct perspective on the band’s history and internal dynamics. All four movies are currently scheduled to hit theaters simultaneously on April 7, 2028, an unusual release strategy that underscores just how ambitious the overall project has become.

The films are being produced through a partnership between Sony Pictures and Mendes’ Neal Street Productions, working in collaboration with Apple Corps to ensure the story stays connected to the band’s own legacy and archives. Scripts for the project have been written by Jez Butterworth, Peter Straughan, and Jack Thorne, three writers with substantial pedigree in prestige filmmaking.

Marketing for the project has already leaned into a sense of discovery and mystery, with Sony previously distributing exclusive postcards featuring first-look images of the four lead actors at Beatles-related locations around the world, including Liverpool’s Cavern Club and the Strawberry Fields memorial in New York’s Central Park. That rollout suggests the studio is treating the films’ promotional cycle with the same meticulous care as the production itself.

With filming actively underway and these new candid glimpses of Ronan as Linda McCartney continuing to circulate, anticipation for the project shows no signs of slowing down, even with more than a year left before audiences will finally see the finished films.
