Marlon Wayans is already talking about the future of the Scary Movie franchise, and fans are paying attention. According to Variety, the actor recently teased early ideas for a possible Scary Movie 7 while attending the premiere of Scary Movie 6. His comments suggest that the long-running horror parody series may not be stopping anytime soon.

Wayans, who has been part of the franchise for more than two decades, hinted that the next film could target some of the biggest recent horror hits. Speaking to Variety, he said, “wait for Scary Movie 7 and we will come back, and we’re going to get us some Backrooms and we’re going to get us some Obsession. Thank you guys, keep making the movies.”

His statement immediately sparked conversation among fans, as it points to two modern horror successes as possible parody targets. Both Backrooms and Obsession have been major box office hits in 2026, despite being relatively low-budget productions. Backrooms has reportedly earned over $130 million worldwide, while Obsession has brought in more than $165 million globally.

The idea of these films being included in a future Scary Movie entry fits the franchise’s long-standing formula. Since its beginning, the series has built its identity by parodying major horror films of their time. Earlier entries famously mocked titles like Scream and The Exorcist, along with many other popular horror and thriller releases.

Wayans’ tease also comes at a time when the franchise is active again. Scary Movie 6 is set to hit theaters on Friday, June 5, and is already generating attention for its comedic take on modern horror trends. Promotional material for the film has shown references to recent hits such as M3GAN, Weapons, Sinners, and Get Out, continuing the tradition of blending horror with comedy satire.

The sixth installment also brings back several familiar faces from earlier films. The cast includes Anna Faris returning as Cindy Campbell, Regina Hall as Brenda Meeks, Shawn Wayans as Ray Wilkins, Jon Abrahams as Bobby Prinze, Lochlyn Munro as Greg Phillippe, and Dave Sheridan as Doofy Gilmore. Their return adds a nostalgic element for longtime fans of the franchise.

Wayans’ comments make it clear that discussions about a seventh film are already underway in some form. There is no official confirmation of production, but his teasing suggests that ideas are being explored behind the scenes.

Wayans’ mention of specific modern horror titles is significant because it shows the franchise is still closely following current trends in the genre. If Scary Movie 7 does move forward, it would likely continue the pattern of spoofing the most popular and widely discussed horror films of its time.

For now, fans will have to wait for Scary Movie 6 to arrive before anything about a sequel becomes official. Still, Wayans’ early tease has already created buzz, especially among viewers curious to see how newer horror hits could be turned into comedy parody material in the next chapter of the franchise.
