Science Saru Unveils New Trailer and Release Date for ‘Ghost in the Shell’ Anime Series
‘The Ghost in the Shell’ anime series from Science SARU has dropped a new trailer, and it also confirms when the show will arrive.
The new series is being produced by Science SARU, the studio known for projects like Devilman Crybaby and Dan Da Dan. The trailer gives another look at the cyberpunk world and confirms that the anime will premiere on July 7 on Prime Video.
Before its streaming debut, the first two episodes will have an early world premiere at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival in June 2026. That screening will be part of a special event called “Dive into ‘The Ghost in the Shell’,” where members of the creative team will also appear to talk about the production.
The series is directed by Mokochan, who previously worked as assistant director on Dan Da Dan. The production team also includes Shuhei Handa as character designer and chief animation director, with music from Taisei Iwasaki, Ryo Konishi, and YUKI KANESAKA. Iwasaki also serves as music director.
The story returns to the world of Major Motoko Kusanagi and Public Security Section 9, also known as the Shell Squad. The trailer shows cybercrime investigations, large-scale action scenes, and hints of the mysterious hacker known as the Puppet Master. The setting stays close to the original timeline, placed in a near-future world where technology and global networks shape everyday life.
Based on the original manga by Masamune Shirow, The Ghost in the Shell has been adapted many times before. The 1995 animated film remains the most famous version, while a 2017 live-action film starring Scarlett Johansson received mixed reactions.
With its new trailer and confirmed release date, the 2026 anime series is positioning itself as a fresh take on a long-running cyberpunk franchise while introducing it to a new generation of viewers.
