Sean Bean Reveals Exciting Season 2 Update for Hit Fantasy Series ‘Robin Hood’
Sean Bean has confirmed that he will soon return to the world of Robin Hood as production on season 2 of MGM+’s fantasy adventure series moves forward. The actor, who plays the famous Sheriff of Nottingham, shared a promising update about the next chapter of the show while speaking with ScreenRant’s Grant Hermanns during an interview for his upcoming Western thriller The Isolate Thief.
According to Bean, filming for Robin Hood season 2 was set to begin soon in Belgrade. The actor revealed that he was preparing to travel there to start work on the new episodes. “I was about to fly out to Belgrade” to begin production in the following weeks, Bean explained during the conversation. He also said he was happy that the series had been renewed, calling it “another iconic role that I’ve had the opportunity to play.”
The MGM+ series puts a fresh spin on the classic Robin Hood legend. Instead of focusing only on the famous outlaw’s battles, the show explores his early journey after his father is wrongly executed. The young Saxon Robin begins fighting against injustice and eventually becomes the leader of a group of outlaws trying to protect their home from the corrupt forces controlling Nottingham and the Norman rulers.
Alongside his fight for justice, Robin’s story also includes his growing relationship with Marian of Huntingdon, the daughter of a Norman Earl. The series presents their romance as part of the larger conflict between the Saxons and Normans, adding a more personal side to the familiar legend.
Robin Hood features Jack Patten as Rob, Lauren McQueen as Marian, Lydia Peckham as Priscilla of Nottingham, Marcus Fraser as Little John Nailer, and Connie Nielsen as Queen Eleanor of Aquitaine. Sean Bean leads the cast as the Sheriff of Nottingham, bringing his experience with memorable fantasy roles to the character.
The show became a surprise success after premiering in November 2025. Both critics and viewers responded positively, with the series earning strong ratings on Rotten Tomatoes and praise for its action scenes, darker tone, and stronger roles for its female characters. The series was officially renewed for a second season in February 2026 after attracting a large audience on MGM+.
The success of this version of Robin Hood is notable because the character has had a difficult history on screen in recent years. Before MGM+’s series, the last major television adaptation was the BBC’s Robin Hood series that ran from 2006 to 2009. The 2018 Robin Hood movie starring Taron Egerton also struggled with critics and audiences, making the new series a welcome comeback for the legendary character.

MGM+ viewers quickly embraced the show, with Robin Hood reaching the number one spot on the platform’s Top 10 list for much of its first season. Even months after the season 1 finale, the series has continued to remain among the platform’s most-watched shows.
How would you rate Robin Hood?
With production now moving ahead in Belgrade, fans may not have to wait too long for new episodes. Based on the timeline of the first season, which was filmed in early 2025 and released later that year, season 2 could potentially arrive sometime in 2026. Sean Bean’s return as the Sheriff of Nottingham suggests the next chapter will continue the action, drama, and battles that made the first season a hit.
