Sebastian Stan has opened up about joining The Batman Part II and shared his excitement about working with director Matt Reeves on the upcoming DC sequel.

Speaking about the project in a recent interview, Stan described the movie as ambitious and said the production is aiming for something much bigger than audiences may expect. According to the actor, the film could surprise fans in a major way once everything comes together.

He said, “It’s a challenge, like everything else. I feel like it’s a really ambitious movie and I think if we do it all right — and obviously I’m so excited about Matt Reeves because he’s been one of my favorites for a long, long time — I really think it’s going to blow people away. It’s going to surprise a lot of people, I think, too.”

Reports surrounding the film say Stan is set to play Harvey Dent, one of Gotham’s most famous characters, who later becomes the villain Two-Face in DC Comics.

The sequel will once again star Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne and Batman. Returning cast members also include Jeffrey Wright as Jim Gordon, Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, and Colin Farrell as the Penguin. Barry Keoghan is also expected to return as the Joker.

Reports also claim that Scarlett Johansson will appear as Gilda Dent, Harvey Dent’s wife, while Charles Dance will reportedly play Harvey’s father.

The story of The Batman Part II is expected to focus more heavily on Bruce Wayne himself instead of only Batman. The film reportedly explores the growing corruption and political division inside Gotham City following the events of the first movie and the spin-off series The Penguin.

Stan also reflected on why superhero stories continue to connect with audiences after so many years. Having already spent years in the Marvel Cinematic Universe playing Bucky Barnes, he believes characters like Batman and Spider-Man remain important because they speak to younger audiences trying to understand themselves.

He explained, “Obviously there’s a reason why Batman’s been re-occurring for so many years, and why so many kids love Spider-Man.” He added that these stories can help young people who feel different or isolated, saying, “It’s about a kid being odd and figuring his way into things. And it works in very subtle ways.”

The Batman Part II is currently scheduled to release on October 1, 2027. Filming is expected to begin in mid-2026 in England and Scotland after several delays connected to the script development process.
