‘Shazam! Fury of the Gods’: All Known Filming Locations
DC entered a new era of its cinematic universe with James Gunn taking the helm. They are botching everything done so far and turning the DCEU into the DCU, but before that happens, there are a couple more projects that need to happen that were already in production. One of those projects in Shazam! Fury of the Gods the sequel with Zachary Levi in the lead role.
The movie has been delayed numerous times, but now it’s officially getting released this month. That means the filming and post-production are already finished, and fans wonder where exactly the movie was shot. So, without further ado, here are all known filming locations for Shazam! Fury of the Gods.
Shazam! Fury of the Gods: A brief synopsis
Shazam! Fury of the Gods is imagined as a sequel to 2019’s Shazam! Which saw Zachary Levi star as the titular character, aka Billy Batson. That movie ended with Billy Batson’s foster brothers and sisters sharing the powers of Shazam with Billy, creating somewhat of a Shazam family.
That, it seems, made the gods furious, and now the Shazam family has to fight the Daughters of Atlas and prevent them from using a deadly weapon that can destroy the entire planet.
The star-studded cast (other than Zachary Levi) will include Lucy Liu as Kalypso, Helen Mirren as Hespera, Rachel Zegler as Anthea, Djimon Hounsou as Shazam, the last surviving member of the Council of Wizards, and others.
As I’ve mentioned, the movie is imagined as a sequel to 2019’s Shazam!, and the 12th installment in the DCEU. However, seeing that James Gunn is planning on wiping the slate clean, how exactly this movie will play into the bigger picture and future plans for the DCU remains to be seen.
Shazam! Fury of the Gods filming locations
Atlanta, Georgia
In May 2021, principal photography for Shazam! Fury of the Gods began in Atlanta, Georgia, and its metropolitan area. Most of the filming for the movie took place in Atlanta, where filming began and ended in August 2021.
You might wonder why it took so long for the movie to be released, seeing that pre-production started in early 2020. Well, as with countless other projects, Shazam! Fury of the Gods was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Atlanta and its metropolitan area is actually a very popular location for filming and production of blockbuster movies due to numerous modern studios being located there.
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
The movie is set in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, as Billy Batson and his foster family are from Philly. It’s unclear how much (if any) of the filming happened in Philadelphia, although the movie’s official IMDb page mentions the city as a filming location.
Philadelphia is one of the largest cities in the Northeast US, with a rich history and numerous landmarks such as the Liberty Bell, Independence Hall, etc.
Shazam! Fury of the Gods trailer & release date
Shazam! Fury of the Gods premieres exclusively in cinemas on March 17, 2023. It’s unclear how long it’ll require for the movie to arrive on HBO Max, but it certainly will at some point, seeing that all other DC projects arrive on the platform, as they are part of Warner Bros.
