That speculation has now been put to rest. Rebecca Ferguson and Greta Lee are officially confirmed to star in ‘Honeymoon/Funeral,’ a romantic comedy centered on two women who meet on a flight from Los Angeles to London, according to Deadline.

The film’s logline sets up a striking contrast between its two central characters. One woman is heading to her honeymoon alone after being left at the altar by her girlfriend, while the other is traveling home for her mother’s funeral, according to Deadline. MRC is financing and overseeing production on the project, which is being directed by Nahnatchka Khan from a screenplay written by Julia Bicknell. The film is being produced by Jennifer Carreras and Khan under their Fierce Baby banner, with Bicknell also serving as a producer on the project.

FilmNation Entertainment has been brought on to oversee worldwide sales for the film, with MRC set to formally launch those sales at the inaugural Toronto International Film Festival market, according to The Wrap. That timing suggests the studio is positioning ‘Honeymoon/Funeral’ as a significant title heading into the fall festival circuit.

Both Ferguson and Lee arrive at the project with substantial recent momentum in their careers. Lee has built a rapidly rising profile in recent years, earning a Golden Globe nomination for her performance in 2023’s ‘Past Lives’ and an Emmy nomination for her supporting role on ‘The Morning Show,’ alongside recent film credits including ‘Tron: Ares’ and ‘A House of Dynamite.’

Ferguson, known for her work across major blockbuster franchises, brings her own established fanbase to the project, adding another layer of star power to a film already generating buzz simply through its premise and cast pairing.
