Sony Reportedly Developing a Live-Action Movie Focused on Spider-Gwen

The idea of an expanded Sony’s Spider-Man universe began in 2013, with plans to launch spin-off films, including one centered on Venom, following ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2.’ However, due to the film’s disappointment, Sony abandoned these plans and collaborated with Marvel Studios in 2015, and since then, Spider-Man has been one of the main characters in MCU.

However, despite SSU movies generally receiving mixed to bad reviews (looking at your ‘Morbius’ & ‘Madame Web’), the SSU continued and now has plenty of live-action and animated projects in development focusing both on Spider-Man’s supporting characters and his villains.

Now according to leaker and scooper with so-so track record MyTimeToShineHello, Sony is ready to be hurt again and is developing a movie focusing on Spider-Gwen.

All joking aside, this has the potential to be excellent and I’m not sure why the studio focused on ‘Madame Web’ first without giving us a standalone movie about the most popular female supporting character in Spiderverse.

It’s unclear whether this project would be related to the “planned” Sony’s animated ‘Spider-Women’ movie. As I’ve already mentioned Spider-Gwen became one of the most popular Spider-Man variants from an alternate universe.

She first appeared in ‘Edge of Spider-Verse’ #2 in 2014. In an alternate universe known as Earth-65, Gwen Stacy is bitten by a radioactive spider instead of Peter Parker, gaining spider-like abilities and becoming the superhero Spider-Woman, commonly referred to as Spider-Gwen due to her civilian identity. She is depicted as a skilled and confident hero, often navigating the challenges of balancing her personal life with her responsibilities as a crime fighter. Spider-Gwen has gained significant popularity among fans and has appeared in various comic series, as well as animated adaptations and merchandise.

Spider-Gwen is also currently one of the most notable characters in Miles Morales’ SpiderVerse franchise. Have something to add? Let us know in the comments below!
