Sophie Thatcher Reacts to Possible Marvel’s X-Men Future
Sophie Thatcher is speaking openly about the ongoing fan speculation linking her to the Marvel Studios X-Men reboot, especially for the role of Rogue. In a recent interview with Josh Horowitz, she addressed the fan art and rumors circulating online and didn’t shut down the idea of joining the franchise.
She explained that she notices the fan casting and online discussions. As she put it, “I see what I [get] tagged in. Yeah. And I’m like, interesting.” While she isn’t confirming any involvement, she made it clear she would be open to the role under the right conditions.
Thatcher said she would want to work with a director who is willing to collaborate closely and listen to her input. She added, “I’m open if it’s a director who’s down to collaborate and listen to me. I want to have a voice.” At the same time, she emphasized that the story itself would need to feel meaningful and carefully handled, especially given the scale and influence of Marvel projects.
She continued by stressing that big franchises come with responsibility. In her words, “I would just want to make sure it’s the right story… not just spreading violence and shock value, but something meaningful.” Her comments suggest she is interested in quality storytelling rather than simply joining a major superhero role for visibility.
When asked about her familiarity with the X-Men universe, Thatcher admitted she is not deeply familiar with the franchise. She joked that her knowledge is limited, saying, “It’s the blue people? So, I’m going to get a lot of hate on that one.” She also mentioned Jennifer Lawrence’s version of Mystique as one of her main reference points.
The conversation comes at a time when casting rumors for Marvel’s upcoming X-Men reboot are increasing. Marvel Studios has not officially confirmed any cast members yet. However, speculation continues to grow online, with several young actors being linked to key mutant roles.
There is also wider discussion about how the reboot will be structured. Reports suggest the project could feature either a younger version of the team or a more established lineup inspired by X-Men: The Animated Series and X-Men ’97. Marvel has not confirmed which direction it will take.
Director Jake Schreier, who is attached to the project, has previously said in interviews that much of what circulates online is not accurate. Speaking about early development, he noted that many rumors do not reflect actual discussions happening behind the scenes, although he confirmed that work is ongoing.
Thatcher’s name has been repeatedly mentioned by fans as a possible modern take on Rogue, a character known in Marvel comics for her power to absorb abilities through touch and her complicated journey from villain to hero. While nothing is official, fan interest in her casting continues to grow.
For now, Marvel Studios has not announced a release date for the X-Men reboot, though industry reports suggest it may still be several years away.
