‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Had a Massive Monday Overseas, and the Numbers Are Wild
Superhero fatigue had been the dominant narrative heading into this summer, with several comic book releases underperforming and prompting real concern about the genre’s long-term staying power. Studios had grown noticeably cautious, and industry trackers were bracing for a summer defined more by caution than spectacle.
That narrative didn’t survive contact with Tom Holland’s fourth solo outing as the web-slinger. What began as a strong but not unprecedented opening weekend has since snowballed into one of the most jaw-dropping theatrical runs in recent memory, with milestones arriving faster than analysts can keep track of them.
‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ has officially crossed the $1 billion mark at the global box office, entering rarefied territory as the second-fastest film in history to hit that threshold, trailing only 2019’s ‘Avengers: Endgame.’ The film reached the milestone in just six days, according to reporting that tracked its rapid climb through both domestic and international markets.
Updated figures show the film pulling in more than $65 million in Monday’s overseas gross alone, pushing its international cume past $646 million. Combined with a domestic total exceeding $407 million, that puts the film’s worldwide haul at roughly $1.053 billion, cementing its place in the exclusive billion-dollar club just days into its theatrical run.
The film’s opening weekend alone set the stage for this trajectory, with a record-breaking $927 million global debut, the second-largest worldwide opening of all time behind only ‘Endgame”s $1.2 billion. Domestically, ‘Brand New Day’ pulled in $360 million, edging past ‘Endgame”s previous record of $357.1 million from 2019.
Internationally, China delivered the film’s biggest overseas start at $121 million, followed by the United Kingdom at $49 million, Mexico at $38.3 million, and South Korea at $25 million. That strong China performance has fueled speculation that ‘Brand New Day’ could eventually clear $2 billion worldwide, a milestone only seven films in history have ever reached.
What makes the achievement particularly notable is the comparison to its own franchise predecessor. ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ managed a staggering $1.9 billion in 2021 without ever playing in China, while ‘Brand New Day’ has already opened strong there, suggesting its final total could climb even higher once all markets are factored in.

The film’s speed to the billion-dollar mark is especially striking given it achieved the feat without any IMAX screens, which had already been committed to ‘The Odyssey’ for a three-week exclusive release window. That hurdle did little to slow ticket sales, even as reports of a high-quality leaked copy circulating online added an unusual wrinkle to the film’s otherwise triumphant rollout.
With a production budget estimated at roughly $225 million, excluding marketing costs, the film’s return on investment has been staggering by any measure. As ‘Brand New Day’ continues its march toward the $2 billion club, it’s reasserting Spider-Man’s status as one of the most bankable properties in modern Hollywood, proof positive that reports of superhero fatigue may have been greatly exaggerated.
