The box office tracking numbers for ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day‘ are staggering, and they keep climbing. According to projections sourced from Box Office Theory, the Tom Holland film is now tracking to open domestically at $228 million, putting it in conversation with some of the biggest theatrical debuts ever recorded and easily on course to be the largest superhero opening since ‘No Way Home.’

Box Office Theory’s Shawn Robbins described the film as “summer 2026’s final S-tier blockbuster tentpole,” noting that the Spider-Man brand remains among the sturdiest of big screen franchises, having proven its relevance across eight live-action films and two hit animated releases over the last twenty-four years.

The presale data is what has been turning heads most aggressively. Deadline confirmed that ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ has posted the strongest first-day U.S. presales of any film in five years, with the record that preceded it being held by ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home,’ which went on to open to $260.1 million domestically, the second-best opening weekend in history behind ‘Avengers: Endgame.’

Fandango separately confirmed the film became the platform’s biggest first-day preseller of the entire year, surpassing even Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Odyssey.’

Domestic presales have now crossed $40 million, with Global Box Office projecting the film to open above $250 million domestically, a figure that would put it on pace for one of the biggest superhero debuts in years. What makes those numbers particularly striking is that the film will not have access to IMAX screens during its opening frame, since those auditoriums are committed to ‘The Odyssey’ for an exclusive window.

The fact that ‘Brand New Day’ is generating historic demand despite losing one of the premium formats that normally helps boost opening weekend grosses is one of the more remarkable aspects of its tracking trajectory.

For context, the threshold the film would need to clear to beat the biggest summer opening in the post-COVID era is $211.4 million, the figure ‘Deadpool and Wolverine’ set in 2024. If ‘Brand New Day’ beats that mark, it would land not only the biggest post-COVID summer debut but also the biggest opening weekend among all July releases ever recorded.

The film picks up four years after ‘No Way Home,’ with Peter Parker living anonymously in New York while his superpowers begin to undergo a potentially dangerous physical evolution. The early forecast connects current expectations directly to the success of ‘No Way Home,’ which earned $804.8 million domestically and $1.91 billion worldwide, setting a benchmark that has kept audience anticipation for Tom Holland’s return operating at an exceptionally high level.

‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ opens in theaters on July 31, directed by Destin Daniel Cretton. If it lands anywhere near its current tracking range, it will serve as a definitive answer to the ongoing superhero fatigue conversation, at least where Spider-Man is concerned.
