Box office milestones usually happen after a movie has spent a weekend in theaters, not before it’s even opened in most countries. Yet somehow, that’s exactly the situation Sony and Marvel find themselves in this week with their latest Spider-Man release.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day‘ has been building extraordinary momentum throughout its rollout, fueled by early international showings in select markets, aggressive presale campaigns, and an overwhelming wave of pent-up demand for Tom Holland’s fourth solo outing as Peter Parker. That momentum has now translated into numbers that would be impressive for a full opening weekend, let alone before the film has even reached most of the globe.

According to tracking data, the film has already crossed 200,000,000 dollars at the worldwide box office, despite not yet having released in the vast majority of countries, including the United States. That figure comes almost entirely from early international showings and presale activity, with the film’s full global rollout still just getting underway.

Domestic advance ticket sales alone have already surpassed 60,000,000 dollars, while worldwide presales have climbed past 120,000,000 dollars even before the film’s wide release date. Fandango previously confirmed that ‘Brand New Day’ posted the platform’s biggest first-day presale of the entire year, outpacing even Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Odyssey,’ which had set the bar just weeks earlier.

Much of that early enthusiasm appears to be tied directly to the film’s packed roster of characters and villains. The film brings together six confirmed antagonists alongside the returns of Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk and Jon Bernthal’s Punisher, marking the character’s first appearance properly folded into the Spider-Man corner of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

That combination of nostalgia, scale, and unresolved plot threads from ‘No Way Home’ seems to be translating into exactly the kind of advance demand studios rarely see outside of the industry’s biggest annual releases. With presale surges reportedly continuing right up through the final days before launch, the momentum shows no signs of slowing as the film heads into its opening weekend.

It’s worth remembering just how significant this early total is in context. ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home,’ the direct predecessor to ‘Brand New Day,’ never even played in China due to regulatory concerns, meaning this film is capturing revenue from a major market its predecessor couldn’t access at all during its original run.

With the international rollout only beginning in earnest and the domestic release still ahead, industry watchers are already treating ‘Brand New Day’ as a genuine contender for one of the biggest openings in box office history. Projections for the full opening weekend have ranged anywhere from 465,000,000 dollars to as high as 800,000,000 dollars globally, depending on which tracking source is cited.

Whatever the final numbers end up being once the weekend concludes, ‘Brand New Day’ has already made its mark before most audiences have even had the chance to buy a ticket. For a franchise that’s spent years fending off talk of superhero fatigue, this kind of pre-release performance suggests Spider-Man remains as bankable as ever.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day has reportedly passed $200M worldwide before its full release. How big will its opening weekend be?
