‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Just Shattered Nearly Every Box Office Record on the Books
Box office milestones don’t come around often, and when they do, it typically takes years of anticipation for a single franchise entry to genuinely rewrite the record books. This past weekend, that rare kind of cinematic event finally happened, and the scale of it caught even seasoned industry analysts by surprise.
For months, tracking estimates had painted a rosy but far more modest picture of what this film might achieve, with early projections suggesting a strong but unremarkable opening. What actually unfolded once ticket sales came in told an entirely different story.
‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day‘ delivered the biggest domestic opening weekend of all time with $360 million and a remarkable $932 million globally, according to Deadline’s full breakdown of the weekend’s numbers. That domestic figure surpassed ‘Avengers: Endgame”s previous record of $357.1 million from April 2019, a mark that had stood untouched for more than six years.
The film’s dominance wasn’t limited to its opening weekend alone. ‘Brand New Day’ also claimed the title of the biggest weekend at the domestic box office for all films combined, pulling in $430 million and edging out the final weekend of April 2019, when ‘Endgame’ led all titles to a $402 million frame.
Beyond the headline numbers, the film broke records across nearly every exhibition format tracked. It posted the biggest global opening ever for ScreenX and 4DX formats combined at $31 million, along with the biggest Dolby Cinema opening weekend domestically at over $11 million and the highest per-screen average in Dolby Cinema history at $63,000. Its Wednesday and Thursday preview haul of $72 million also broke the previous record of $60 million, set by ‘Endgame.’

For the film’s stars, the numbers translated into personal milestones as well. The opening marked the biggest domestic launch of Tom Holland’s career as Spider-Man, while also standing as the biggest domestic and global opening for both Zendaya and director Destin Daniel Cretton individually.
Sony Pictures Motion Picture Group chairman and CEO Tom Rothman celebrated the achievement in a statement, saying, “360 million thank-yous to all the filmmakers, actors, producers, and to my colleagues at Sony, who created such a fantastic film and an exceptional marketing and distribution campaign.” He added, “Records are made to be broken, but we will take great pride in this one, for as long as we hold it.”
Sony Pictures Entertainment chairman and CEO Ravi Ahuja echoed that sentiment in a note to staff, calling the weekend a powerful reminder that moviegoing remains “one of the world’s great shared cultural experiences.” He specifically credited Cretton, producers Kevin Feige and Amy Pascal, and Holland for bringing new depth to the character.
The success also carried strong ripple effects beyond the box office itself, with Regal Entertainment reporting its biggest four-day span in company history thanks to combined turnout for ‘Brand New Day’ and ‘The Odyssey,’ generating more than $160 million globally in ticket and concession revenue.
With critics and audiences both responding enthusiastically, holding a 90% score on Rotten Tomatoes and an “A” CinemaScore rating, ‘Brand New Day’ has firmly established itself as one of the defining box office events of the year.
