Florence Pugh has spent years turning heads at the Oscars, BAFTAs, and Golden Globes with bold, often architecturally striking gowns, but one major ceremony had remained conspicuously absent from her red carpet résumé. That changed this week, and Pugh made sure her first appearance at the event would be memorable.

Pugh made her Emmys debut at the 78th Primetime Emmy Awards, attending not as a nominee but as a presenter, and she used the occasion to deliver one of the standout looks of the entire night. She wore a custom Vivienne Westwood gown designed under creative director Andreas Kronthaler, rendered in a soft lilac tone that immediately set her apart on the carpet.

The dress leaned fully into Westwood’s signature aesthetic, featuring a corseted, hourglass bodice paired with a high-waisted, A-line skirt that trailed into a long, sweeping train. A sheer, sequin-covered overlay added subtle shimmer to the structured silhouette, while dramatic tulle sleeves in a slightly darker purple draped off her shoulders and down her arms, giving the entire look a sense of movement as she posed for photographers.

Pugh completed the ensemble with Bulgari jewelry, anchored by a pink gold statement necklace featuring delicate pink and green stones alongside clustered diamonds. Her glam team kept her hair in a chic, effortless messy bun, pairing it with soft glowing skin, rosy blush, defined mascara, and a polished nude lip that let the gown remain the clear focal point of the look.

Pugh wasn’t simply there for the fashion moment, either. She joined fellow presenter Julia Garner on stage to hand out the award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series, which went to Rhea Seehorn for her performance as Carol Sturka in Apple TV’s ‘Pluribus,’ marking Seehorn’s first-ever Emmy win after previous nominations for ‘Better Call Saul.’

While Pugh didn’t have a nomination of her own this year, her Emmys appearance arrives just as she’s stepping more seriously into television. She’s set to star in Netflix’s upcoming miniseries adaptation of John Steinbeck’s ‘East of Eden,’ led by writer and director Zoe Kazan, alongside Christopher Abbott, Mike Faist, and Ciarán Hinds.

Speaking about the project to Extra, Pugh described the emotional scope of the story ahead of its release, saying, “You are not ready. I don’t think I’m ready. What can I say, it’s so unbelievably full of life and of human faults and of decision making that has a knock on effect for generations after.”
