‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ TV Spot Confirms Ramrod’s MCU Debut With a Classic Comic Book Nod
A new TV spot for ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ has quietly confirmed one of the film’s most unexpected additions to Spider-Man’s rogues gallery. Footage shared by @zomikpizzatime shows what appears to be Ramrod in live-action action for the first time in MCU history, with the brief clip already being compared side by side to the classic comic book cover it appears to recreate, drawing widespread excitement from the most deeply devoted corners of the Spider-Man fandom.
The footage surfaced in a new TV spot and shows Peter Parker battling the half-cyborg villain in what appears to be a street-level sequence. As of now, no actor has been confirmed in the role of Ramrod in ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day.’
Ramrod was first introduced in Marvel Comics in 1973 in ‘Daredevil,’ originally depicted as a construction worker gravely injured in a workplace accident who was transformed into a half-man, half-cyborg by the villains Kerwin Broderick and Moondragon, forced into committing crimes under threat of blackmail. He is far from a household name, which is precisely what makes his inclusion feel so deliberate and so satisfying for longtime fans.
Earlier reporting had suggested the film would open with a montage sequence featuring Peter battling a string of obscure villains, including Boomerang, Tarantula, and Ramrod, designed to bridge the gap between the end of ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ and the present day, with each fight showing his suit evolving as his experience grows. The TV spot footage strongly suggests that sequence has made it to the final cut.
Even after the film’s first official trailer revealed a crowded villain roster, reports indicated ‘Brand New Day’ was still hiding additional antagonists, including the Enforcers, 8 Ball, Tombstone, and Ramrod, suggesting the final film’s scope of street-level chaos is broader than marketing has shown.
The choice of Ramrod is arguably validated precisely because of his obscurity. Peter Parker is clearly going to battle a wide range of enemies throughout the film, and including a deep-cut cyborg villain reinforces the film’s commitment to the grounded, street-level sensibility that has always defined the best Spider-Man stories.
The confirmed villain roster already includes Michael Mando’s long-awaited return as Scorpion, Jon Bernthal as The Punisher, Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk in a supporting capacity, and Sadie Ink in a role that has fueled considerable speculation. With Ramrod now apparently in the mix as well, ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ is shaping up to be one of the most densely packed entries in the wall-crawler’s cinematic history. The film arrives in theaters on July 31.
