‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’s’ New Teaser Confirms the Punisher Is Joining the Fight Against the Hulk
A new international teaser for ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ is giving fans their clearest look yet at just how chaotic Peter Parker’s world is about to become. Shared by Sony Pictures Korea, the spot shows Spider-Man and the Punisher squaring off against a rampaging Hulk, confirming a three-way showdown that had previously only been teased in passing.
The footage gives fans their first proper glimpse of Spider-Man teaming up with Frank Castle to take on a Hulk in full rage mode, with a blink and you will miss it shot of the Punisher opening fire on the Green Goliath as he leaps past Spider-Man. The same spot also shows Spider-Man using a modified Shocker gauntlet to fight back against the Hulk’s overwhelming strength.
Recent concept art has filled in more of the story behind that fight. Official artwork for the film describes the Punisher becoming entangled in Spider-Man and the Hulk’s battle not because he is hunting either of them, but because his own mission collides with theirs. That framing suggests the skirmish is less a planned team-up and more an accident of bad timing between three very different agendas.
The movie marks the Punisher and Jon Bernthal’s big-screen debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, joining a cast that already includes Tom Holland, Mark Ruffalo, Zendaya, Sadie Sink, and Jacob Batalon. Michael Mando also returns as Scorpion, alongside Marvin Jones III as Tombstone and Tramell Tillman rounding out the ensemble.
The official synopsis describes Peter as an adult living entirely alone four years after the events of ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home,’ having voluntarily erased himself from the lives and memories of the people he loves. Fighting crime full time in a city that no longer knows his name, the pressure of that isolation triggers a physical transformation he cannot fully control, one that puts him on a collision course with the very threat he needs to stop.
Much of the marketing has focused on Peter’s uneasy alliance with Bruce Banner, who helps him try to manage his mutating powers before things predictably go wrong. A newer trailer confirms that the hooded, still unnamed character played by Sadie Sink is likely the one responsible for unleashing the Hulk, possibly even controlling his movements directly, which recontextualizes the Spidey and Hulk brawl as a symptom of a larger threat rather than the main event. Speculation continues that Sink could be playing a future version of Jean Grey, though Marvel has not confirmed her role.
Fans hoping for a gray Hulk redesign will have to wait. An excerpt from the film’s upcoming art book confirmed the Hulk will stick with his classic green look, with the studio deciding audiences needed the familiar version after exploring other options.
Who would win in a fight between Spider-Man, Punisher, and Hulk?
‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ is directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, produced by Kevin Feige, Amy Pascal, Avi Arad, and Rachel O’Connor, and swings into theaters worldwide on July 31. With trailers now openly showing off the Hulk and Punisher confrontation, it looks like Sony is confident this brawl is one of the film’s biggest selling points rather than a twist worth hiding until opening weekend.
