‘Spider-Noir’ vs. ‘The Boys’ Season 5: Rumored Budget Gap Has Fans Asking Questions
A new discussion has started among fans of The Boys after reports suggested that Amazon may have spent far more on Spider-Noir than on the final season of its hit superhero series.
The conversation began after Spider-Noir, starring Nicolas Cage, arrived on Prime Video. Shortly after the show’s release, reports about its possible production budget started spreading online.
According to information shared by 3DVF, Spider-Noir may have cost Amazon close to $400 million. Neither Amazon nor Sony Pictures Television has officially confirmed that figure, but it has already caught the attention of viewers.
The budget rumors have become even more interesting because of comparisons with The Boys. While Amazon has never revealed the exact cost of producing The Boys season 5, estimates suggest it was significantly cheaper.
According to Dexerto, episodes of The Boys season 4 likely cost around $15 million each. With eight episodes in a season, that would put the total budget somewhere around $120 million. Some estimates place the budget even lower, between $90 million and $120 million for the final season.
If the reported Spider-Noir budget is accurate, that would mean Amazon spent more than three times as much on the Nicolas Cage series.

The large difference has left some fans wondering why the final season of one of Prime Video’s biggest shows may have received a smaller budget. Many viewers expected The Boys season 5 to deliver an even bigger finale, especially after years of building toward a final confrontation between Butcher and Homelander.
Showrunner Eric Kripke had previously raised expectations by saying the final season would go “scorched earth.” Promotional material for the season also suggested a massive showdown, with Homelander surrounded by numerous Supes.
However, some fans felt the ending was smaller in scale than expected. Instead of a giant battle involving many characters, the climax focused largely on the conflict between Butcher and Homelander.
The budget reports have led some viewers to wonder if financial limitations played a role. Kripke had previously told fans that he was not working with a budget comparable to the huge battles seen in Game of Thrones. While there is no evidence that specific scenes were cut because of money, the comparison has fueled debate online.
Reaction from fans has been strong. One viewer wrote on social media, “The betrayal of the century.” Another fan responded, “Man, we can’t stop thinking about what would happen if they gave that budget to The Boys.”
Despite the criticism, most fans are not directing their frustration toward Spider-Noir itself. Instead, many are simply curious about Amazon’s spending priorities and what a larger budget could have meant for The Boys’ final season.
The reported numbers have also reminded viewers of Amazon’s history of spending heavily on major projects. According to Forbes, the first season of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power reportedly cost between $750 million and $1 billion, making it one of the most expensive television productions ever made.
For now, the reported $400 million Spider-Noir figure remains unconfirmed. Still, the comparison has sparked plenty of discussion among fans, especially those who hoped to see an even larger and more ambitious ending for The Boys.
Both Spider-Noir and The Boys are currently available to stream on Prime Video.
