A Star Wars fan believes they may have spotted a small Luke Skywalker reference in The Mandalorian and Grogu. The idea started spreading online after viewers noticed a quick scene during the movie’s opening moments.

The possible cameo appears during the film’s opening credits at Adelphi Base. As the familiar Mandalorian theme plays, an R2 unit can briefly be seen being lowered into an X-wing. One fan pointed out the moment online and asked, “Was that R2-D2 on Luke’s X-Wing that I saw on The Mandalorian and Grogu.”

The scene moves very quickly, so it is hard to tell if the droid is really R2-D2 or just another similar-looking astromech. Some fans think it could easily be a background Easter egg instead of a direct Luke Skywalker appearance.

Still, the theory has caught attention because Luke already has a connection to Grogu from earlier Star Wars shows. In The Mandalorian Season 2, Luke arrived to rescue Grogu after the young Jedi reached out through the Force on Tython. He later took Grogu away to begin Jedi training.

That story continued in The Book of Boba Fett, where Grogu decided to leave his training and return to Din Djarin. Since then, Luke Skywalker has not appeared again in the storyline.

Fans now believe it would make sense for Luke to still have ties to the New Republic during this point in the Star Wars timeline. Some even think he could have visited Adelphi Base while working on rebuilding the Jedi Order.

For now, there is no official confirmation from Lucasfilm about whether the X-wing and droid really belong to Luke Skywalker. But the quick moment has already become one of the movie’s most talked-about Easter eggs among Star Wars fans.
