We know that the Jedi were prohibited from loving other people romantically due to the dangers of being attached to another person. Nevertheless, even the truest Jedi wasn’t spared from having feelings for someone else as well, especially during his younger years. We are talking about Obi-Wan Kenobi, who ended up having a love interest when he was younger and before he became a Jedi Knight. So, who was Obi-Wan Kenobi’s love interest?

Obi-Wan Kenobi fell in love with Duchess Satine Kryze, who became the leader of the New Mandalorians. They met during a mission when Obi-Wan was still a Padawan. After the mission, they went their separate ways but never truly forgot one another until they met again during the Clone Wars.

The thing about the story between Obi-Wan and Satine is that this was a tragic story that was never going to work despite the feelings that they both had for one another. Of course, the relationship saw one of the saddest ends in Star Wars history, as this only shaped Obi-Wan’s character even more. Now, let’s look at what we know about Duchess Satine Kryze.

Obi-Wan’s and Satine’s relationship explained

The events of the Star Wars storyline have many different backstories involving our favorite heroes. Of course, while most of the storyline of the Skywalker Saga revolved around the Skywalker family, one other person stood out. We are talking about Obi-Wan Kenobi, who was almost always in the middle of everything happening in Anakin Skywalker’s life. And while Obi-Wan served his role as Anakin’s failed mentor and Luke’s protector and first teacher, he also had a very interesting life.

In ‘Star Wars: The Clone Wars,’ Obi-Wan Kenobi went to Mandalore because he was tasked with discussing matters with Duchess Satine Kryze, who was the leader of the Mandalorian people after the Mandalorian Civil War ended nearly 20 years prior. And the reason why Obi-Wan was given this task was the fact that he was familiar with Satine.

The truth was that there was a history between Obi-Wan and Satine. In fact, they met during the events of the Mandalorian Civil War, which took place between 41 and 39 BBY. At that time, Satine was an outspoken leader of the New Mandalorians, who wanted to bring about a new era in the time of Mandalore by turning the Mandalorians into a peaceful people.

However, because the traditional Mandalorians rejected the peaceful movement of the New Mandalorians, Satine’s life was in danger during the Mandalorian Civil War. That was when the Jedi Order was tasked with sending someone to protect Satine. This happened to be Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn, who was already traveling with his Padawan learner, Obi-Wan Kenobi.

During that time, Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan worked hard to protect Satine from danger. They ran from one planet to another to protect Satine from the Mandalorians who wanted to take her out. The running lasted for about a year as they didn’t know what would happen next due to the many different uncertainties. It was during that time that Satine and Obi-Wan grew closer to one another, especially because they were around the same age.

Eventually, Satine and Obi-Wan developed feelings for one another. Obi-Wan loved Satine’s idealism as he became more optimistic and hopeful because of her strong nature. This allowed Obi-Wan to develop his own enthusiastic views as a young Padawan. But while it was clear that they both loved one another, neither of them acted on their feelings because they were aware of their different stations in life. Satine was set to become the leader of Mandalore, while Obi-Wan was eventually going to live the life of a Jedi Knight, who wasn’t allowed to have romantic relationships or feelings for others.

As such, they both went their separate ways when the war ended. To some extent, both Obi-Wan and Satine regretted falling for one another because they already knew that nothing would come out of it. But they still loved the fact that their feelings for one another turned them into better versions of themselves.

Obi-Wan and Satine almost rekindled their spark

During their reunion on Mandalore, when Obi-Wan visited as a Jedi Master during the Clone Wars, there was tension between them. It was clear that there were unresolved issues between them, especially because they parted ways without ever talking about their feelings for one another. Nevertheless, they tried to stay professional because they had to work with one another, especially because Mandalore was in trouble because of the presence of the terrorist group known as Death Watch.

After helping Satine against Death Watch on Mandalore, Obi-Wan tried to bring her back to Coruscant so that she could talk to the Senate herself. On the way to Coruscant, Tal Merrik became a threat as he betrayed Satine and tried to kill her. Satine’s life was in danger as she admitted to Obi-Wan that she still loved him.

To that end, Kenobi admitted to Satine that he would have left the Jedi Order years ago if Satine had admitted to him that she loved him. It was clear that Obi-Wan truly loved Satine back then and still cared for her after so many years. Anakin, however, killed Merrik from behind to save Satine.

As the Clone Wars progressed, Satine’s rule on Mandalore was in danger because Darth Maul worked together with Death Watch to destabilize the rule of the New Mandalorians. Maul, who betrayed Pre Vizsla to become the new ruler of Mandalore, captured Satine and used her as a way to torture Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Maul killed Satine right before Obi-Wan to make him suffer for what he did to him years ago. Satine died in Kenobi’s arms as the only woman that Obi-Wan ever loved was now gone. Nevertheless, he never gave in to the dark side of the Force and wasn’t even overcome by his rage despite Satine’s death. Her death only turned Obi-Wan into a stronger Jedi in terms of his convictions and emotional strength.

Did Obi-Wan and Satine have a child?

While Obi-Wan and Satine never had a true relationship, there have been rumors regarding the possibility of having a child together. And the character that fans are looking at is Korkie Kryze, who was introduced as Satine’s headstrong nephew.

The reason why fans thought that Korkie was not Satine’s nephew but was actually her son is the fact that he actually looks like Obi-Wan. On top of that, Korkie’s parents were never mentioned or seen onscreen, as this strengthened the theories that point to the possibility that he may have been the secret son of Satine and Obi-Wan.

Of course, there’s also the fact that the Mandalorian Civil War ended on 39 BBY, which also happens to be the same year that Korkie was said to be born. We know that Obi-Wan and Satine went their separate ways after the Mandalorian Civil War, and fans believe that Obi-Wan left Satine pregnant before he returned to his life as a Jedi.

But while the theories do point to the possibility that Korkie may have been Obi-Wan’s son, there are some problems regarding such theories. First off, it was clearly mentioned that neither Obi-Wan nor Satine acted on their feelings even though they truly loved one another. Second, as Satine was dying after Maul stabbed her, she never even mentioned a word about Korkie to Obi-Wan, as any mother would have wanted the father of their son to know about this secret.

So, with that said, it is unlikely that a child was born out of the love between Obi-Wan and Satine. They loved one another but never acted on their feelings because they knew they had different destinies and lives. But this was always a big “what if” in their lives because Kenobi did admit that he would have left the life of a Jedi for Satine if she only admitted years ago that she loved him. And the entire course of the Skywalker Saga would have changed if Obi-Wan had left the Jedi Order for Satine.
