‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow’: Plot, Cast, Release Date & Everything We Know So Far

More than a year ago, James Gunn and Peter Safran took over DC Studios as Co-Producers and Co-CEOs, despite DCEU severely underperforming, fans were disappointed and angry. Mostly due to the universe being completely rebooted despite having a few hits among a lot of failures.

Safran and Gunn announced a slate of movies, among them being the new live-action movie ‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.’ Considering that the movie recently got quite a few updates, we decided to summarize everything in this neat guide.

‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow’ will focus on a different, more jaded Supergirl

‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow’ will be based on the comic written by Tom King. The limited series ran from 2021 to 2022 and painted Supergirl in a much darker light than we’re used to seeing her in. During the destruction of her home planet Krypton, Supergirl was stuck on a piece of the planet that drifted away. She grew up in a harsh environment with a lot of mental trauma to unpack, considering that she has seen everyone she loves die.

She was sent to Earth to protect her cousin Superman, but it seemed that Superman no longer needed her when she turned up on Earth. Kara Zor-El soon finds herself without any sort of goal or aspirations. She seems to be forever stuck in Superman’s shadow until she is contacted by a strange alien girl set on the path of revenge. She wants to employ Kara’s help to realize her goals by any means necessary.

This version of Supergirl is messed up, has a lot of emotional baggage, and it’s much more battle-hardened than we’re used to. James Gunn confirmed as much when he commented on the movie.

“In our story, we have Superman, who was sent to Earth and raised by incredibly loving parents. Kara was on Krypton. She was on a piece of Krypton that drifted away from the planet, and she lived there for the first fourteen years of her life in a horrible situation where she watched everyone around her die. So, she’s a much harsher and more f*cked up Supergirl than you’ve been used to thus far.”

We’re not sure to what extent the movie will follow the storyline that it was based on, but in any case, prepare for a new version of Supergirl.

Currently, only 1 cast member is confirmed

We know that Milly Alcock is going to be portraying Kara Zor-El, but besides that none of the cast members have been confirmed. We can likely assume that some character from ‘Superman’ will reprise their roles since Supergirl is rumored to have a small cameo in the movie.

The movie will be released a year after ‘Superman’

The movie currently has a release date set for June 26, 2025. Filming is anticipated to commence in late 2024.
