Supergirl is preparing to become a bigger part of the new DC Universe, with Kara Zor-El’s journey continuing beyond her upcoming solo movie. While fans are getting ready to see Milly Alcock take on the role in ‘Supergirl’, new details reveal that the hero will return in another major DCU project after ‘Man of Tomorrow’.

The update comes from ‘Supergirl’ executive producer Lars P. Winther, who discussed the future of the character during the film’s premiere event. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Winther confirmed that Kara will appear in the next chapter of the DCU following the upcoming Superman sequel.

The project in question is ‘Man of Tomorrow’, the follow-up to 2025’s ‘Superman’, which is currently in production. Winther revealed that Alcock will be part of the movie and teased where Kara’s story will go after the events of her own film.

“Without giving too much away, this movie ends a particular way, and you see where she’s going to end up. She’s done her wild ways, and now she’s going to try to get back in with her cousin and be more on Earth again,” Winther told The Hollywood Reporter.

The upcoming ‘Supergirl’ movie is expected to introduce a very different version of Kara compared to previous adaptations. Instead of focusing only on her connection to Superman, the film will explore her own experiences, trauma, and identity as she finds her place in the larger DC Universe.

Based on the comic ‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow’ by Tom King, Bilquis Evely, and Matheus Lopes, the movie takes Kara away from Earth and into a larger intergalactic adventure. The story is designed to show the differences between Superman and Supergirl, especially because their experiences with Krypton were not the same.

Winther explained that Kara’s history gives the character a unique emotional journey. Unlike Superman, who left Krypton as a baby, Kara remembers her home planet and experienced its destruction at a much older age.

“She didn’t leave Krypton when she was a baby like Superman. She left when she was like 12, 13 years old. There’s definitely some emotional stuff here because she’s leaving when she’s close to her parents, and she sees their demise,” Winther said.

The decision to continue Kara’s story after ‘Man of Tomorrow’ shows that DC Studios sees Supergirl as an important part of its future plans. The character is expected to help expand the Superman family while also bringing a different style of storytelling to the franchise.

‘Supergirl’ director Craig Gillespie also explained that the film is designed to stand on its own rather than simply set up future projects. He told The Hollywood Reporter that James Gunn wanted each DCU movie to feel like its own complete story.

“We are treating each of these as their own graphic novel. This is your graphic novel,” Gillespie said.

Still, the director admitted that Kara’s journey is far from over and expressed interest in seeing where the character goes next. With her appearance in ‘Man of Tomorrow’ already confirmed, fans will have another chance to follow the hero after her solo adventure.

As the new DC Universe continues to grow, Supergirl appears set to become one of its key characters. Her next appearance could help shape the future of the Superman family and show audiences how Kara fits into the bigger world that DC Studios is building.
