‘Superior Avengers’ #1 Preview: Doctor Doom’s Superior Avengers Clash with Cosmic Villain

Doctor Doom has taken control of the world in Marvel’s new event, One World Under Doom, and he’s assembled his own team of Avengers to do his bidding. In Superior Avengers, Doom’s personal heroes face off against the powerful cosmic villain, Annihilus, and his army of bugs.

The first issue, written by Steve Foxe and illustrated by Luca Maresca, kicks off with an action-packed scene in Washington, D.C., where Annihilus is invading. The mysterious new Black Panther helmet-wearing character, Killmonger, saves a woman from Annihilus and joins his team.

The Superior Avengers roster includes a female Doctor Octopus, who is decimating bugs but uninterested in physical work, Malekith, who is enjoying the chaos and killing bugs, Onslaught, who uses telepathy to protect civilians and save them from harm, and Abomination, armed with a Latverian shield and Doctor Doom-inspired armor.

In the first issue, readers learn that this team was actually put together by Kristoff Vernard, Doom’s adoptive son. “I think Doom probably feels that Doom can handle all things on his own—that’s pretty much the Doom way,” said Steve Foxe in an interview. “But having his own team of Avengers—one that addresses the world’s ills with Doom’s own methodology—becomes an attractive notion.“

Foxe also shared insights about the new roster. “One of the first characters I landed on was a new female Killmonger… I thought had a lot of potential to introduce a new dynamic to that legacy—and maybe even go toe to toe with a certain princess.“

This unique team will bring a fresh spin on the classic Avengers, and fans can expect surprises as the story unfolds.
