‘Superman: Legacy’: Three New Cast Members Are Added to Justice League Roles
Regardless of what you might think about James Gunn, there’s no denying that he’s really come a long way since he directed 2014’s ‘Guardians of the Galaxy.’ Back then, he was an unknown filmmaker who was promising a lot thanks to his first superhero movie.
Now, nine years, three ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ movies, and two DC projects (‘The Suicide Squad’ and ‘Peacemaker’) later, he’s the co-CEO of DC Studios, working on the upcoming reboot of DCEU, officially called DCU. And what’s even more important, he officially signed to write and direct ‘Superman: Legacy,’ the movie that will officially kick off DCU in exactly two years!
Gunn likes to give his followers on social media constant teases about the project’s development, and although the plot is being kept under wraps, we still know a handful of things. We know that the movie won’t depict Clark Kent’s origin story, that the plot will be set during his early years at Daily Planet, and that David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan will portray Clark Kent/Superman and Lois Lane.
Three new cast members have been added to ‘Superman: Legacy’! And they are playing known members of the Justice League!
According to Vanity Fair’s recent report, three new cast members have signed for ‘Superman: Legacy.’ Isabela Merced has been cast as Hawkgirl, Edi Gathegi signed for the role of Mister Terrific, and Nathan Fillion joined the movie as Guy Gardner, one of the Green Lanterns!
Previous rumors and reports were teasing that ‘Superman: Legacy’ might introduce more DCU superheroes apart from the movie’s titular character. The popular rumor claimed that some members of the Authority would be introduced, but Gunn recently denied that rumor. Although we may not see members of the Authority ahead of their own movie, which is set to release after ‘Superman: Legacy,’ it looks like we will meet more than one Justice League member.
Nathan Fillion starred earlier this year in a minor role in Gunn’s ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.’ He’s currently best known for starring in the police-procedural drama series ‘The Rookie.’ Isabela Merced previously starred in ‘Transformers: The Last Knight,’ ‘Instant Family,’ ‘Sicario: Day of the Soldado,’ and ‘Dora and the Lost City of Gold.’ Finally, Edi Gathegi is known for playing Darwin ‘in X-Men: First Class’ and Laurent in ‘The Twilight Saga.’
The characters of Hawkgirl and Mr. Terrific previously appeared in live-action in the TV-shared universe known as Arrowverse, in which they were played by Ciara Renée and Echo Kellum, respectively.
Written and directed by James Gunn, ‘Superman: Legacy’ is set to be released on July 11, 2025!
