‘Sweetpea’ Season 2 Teaser Confirms Ella Purnell’s Killer Is Back, and Her Body Count Is Only Growing

Dark comedy thrillers rarely stick the landing quite like ‘Sweetpea‘ managed to when it first premiered, turning a quiet wallflower’s descent into murder into one of the more unexpectedly compelling character studies of recent television. Ella Purnell’s turn as Rhiannon Lewis walked a genuinely tricky tonal line, blending morbid humor with real emotional weight, and audiences responded strongly enough that a second season felt inevitable almost immediately.

That inevitability is now paying off. Sky and STARZ have officially unveiled the first teaser trailer for ‘Sweetpea’ Season 2, giving fans their first proper look at Purnell reprising her role as Rhiannon since the show’s explosive first-season finale left her relationship, and her secret, in ruins.

The new season picks up in the aftermath of those deadly events, with Rhiannon now navigating a promotion at the Carnsham Gazette while dealing with an unexpected romantic entanglement and, more urgently, a copycat killer who threatens to expose everything she’s worked so hard to hide. As her kill list continues to grow, Rhiannon is forced to confront the accusation her ex-boyfriend AJ made before his death: was he right that she’s genuinely a monster?

That central question gives the new season a sharper psychological edge than its predecessor, pushing Rhiannon past simple survival instinct and into a more uncomfortable reckoning with her own identity. The teaser reportedly features Purnell declaring, “Do you know what? I’m gonna live my truth!”, a line that captures the show’s signature blend of dark comedy and unsettling self-awareness even as her body count climbs.

Season 2 brings a handful of new additions into Rhiannon’s orbit. Rish Shah joins as Gabriel, described as Rhiannon’s new romantic interest, while Tamsin Greig steps into the role of Liv, AJ’s mother, giving the season a direct emotional tie back to the fallout of his death. Taj Atwal joins as Freya, Rhiannon’s formidable new boss at the newspaper, and Jenny Walser rounds out the new cast as Daisy, an adoring new friend who may complicate Rhiannon’s already precarious double life.

Returning cast members include Jon Pointing, Jeremy Swift, Leah Harvey, and Ingrid Oliver, giving longtime fans familiar faces to anchor the season’s new mysteries. Behind the scenes, Selina Lim takes over as lead writer for Season 2, working alongside a writing team that includes Emme Hoy, Anna Jordan, and Laura Jayne Tunbridge, while Purnell continues in her role as executive producer alongside Ella Jones and Kirstie Swain, who created and led the writers’ room on Season 1.

The series remains an adaptation of C.J. Skuse’s novel of the same name, produced by See-Saw Films and fanboy in association with Sky Studios. That creative pedigree helped the first season earn strong reviews for its willingness to linger in morally murky territory rather than offering easy answers about who deserves sympathy in Rhiannon’s story.

‘Sweetpea’ Season 2 is confirmed to launch on Sky in the UK this November, with a STARZ premiere following in early 2027. Given how strongly the first season resonated with both critics and audiences, expectations are high that the sophomore run can push Rhiannon’s unraveling even further without losing the dark humor that made her such a compelling antihero in the first place.
