Switch 2 Permabans Are So Final, Not Even Nintendo Can Undo Them, User ‘Twink Link’ Warns

A Nintendo Switch 2 owner recently faced a frustrating situation when their console was permanently banned, all because of a username issue. The user, who goes by the name Twink Link, shared their story online, explaining how this ban stopped them from accessing anything online on their Switch 2.
This meant no multiplayer, no eShop access, and no way to buy or download games digitally.
The problem started because the owner lets their whole family use the Switch 2. Somehow, their sister ended up with the username Twink Link. For those who know the Zelda games, Link is sometimes called a “twink,” especially in Breath of the Wild.
The family was excited to play Breath of the Wild together, but the ban brought all the fun to a halt.
When Twink Link contacted Nintendo support, they were told something surprising. The support staff apparently found the situation amusing but made it clear that “Permanent system bans cannot be revoked by Nintendo at all.”
The player was advised to return the banned system and use their cloud backups to keep their game saves. Twink Link felt uncomfortable with this solution, pointing out that if they returned the console, GameStop might sell it to someone else, but the digital games would be unusable since the console was banned.
This advice from support surprised many, as it suggests people won’t get a refund for a banned console, and buying second-hand banned consoles could become a big problem. Twink Link warned others to be careful with usernames on the Switch 2.
Later, the player updated their Reddit post with better news: “Nintendo is actively working to resolve the issue in question and my console is being unbanned. It wasn’t the username that caused the issue like the initial support agent claimed rather it was flagged by accident and as such they are working to fix it.”
This case shows that a permanent ban on the Switch 2 can be very serious and hard to reverse. Still, it also reveals that mistakes happen, and sometimes bans are put in place by accident. For now, Twink Link’s story is a reminder to be cautious with usernames on the Switch 2 and to keep an eye on any updates from Nintendo.
