Sydney Sweeney will no longer appear in The Devil Wears Prada 2 after her planned cameo was removed during editing.

The report says Sweeney actually filmed a short scene for the sequel. The moment was expected to appear early in the film and would have shown her inside the fashion world setting of the story. However, the final version of the movie does not include her appearance.

A source told Entertainment Weekly that the decision was made for creative reasons. The scene did not end up fitting smoothly into the structure of the final cut, so it was taken out during post-production. The source also said the removal was not simple, since the team appreciated her involvement in the project.

In the filmed version of the scene, Sweeney reportedly appeared as herself. She was part of a sequence involving a celebrity styling moment inside a fashion office setting. The scene also included Emily Blunt, who plays Emily Charlton in the film. The moment was meant to expand the character’s introduction and her position in the fashion industry.

The sequel continues the story from the original 2006 film The Devil Wears Prada. It follows the return of Andy Sachs, played by Anne Hathaway, as she reconnects with former colleagues at Runway magazine. The storyline also brings back Miranda Priestly, played by Meryl Streep, and Nigel Kipling, played by Stanley Tucci.

In the new plot, the characters deal with changes in the fashion and media world. Emily Charlton, now working at a high level in the fashion industry, becomes an important figure in the story as the group tries to secure support for the struggling magazine.

Even though Sweeney’s cameo was removed, the film still includes several other surprise appearances. The report confirms that Lady Gaga appears in the movie. She also contributes to the soundtrack with a song titled “Runway,” recorded with rapper Doechii.

The sequel brings back many of the original creative team members. Director David Frankel, writer Aline Brosh McKenna, and producer Wendy Finerman all returned for the project. The film also adds a large group of new cast members, expanding the world of the original story.

Filming for the sequel took place in several locations and wrapped in 2025. The movie is now scheduled for theatrical release on May 1. Interest in the project has been high due to the return of the original cast and the long gap since the first film.

The report from Entertainment Weekly also notes that Sweeney’s involvement was still valued by the production team, even though her scene did not remain in the final version. No official comment was provided by representatives for Disney or the actress.

This kind of situation happens often in big films, even with well-known actors. Scenes get removed if they do not fit the final flow, no matter who is in them. It does not always mean the performance was bad, just that the story changed during editing. What do you think about cutting cameos like this? Do you think they should still be included in some form, or is it better to keep the story tight? Share your thoughts in the comments.
