The Human Vapor (Franchise)

Released in 1960, *The Human Vapor* is a Japanese sci-fi thriller directed by Ishirō Honda with special effects by Eiji Tsuburaya. The film follows a man who is accidentally transformed into a gaseous being and uses his extraordinary powers to rob banks in order to support the dancing career of the woman he loves while staying one step ahead of the police.

Produced by Toho, the movie became both a critical and commercial success, earning praise for its innovative visual effects and emotional story. Over the years, it has gained cult-classic status and is widely regarded as one of Japan’s standout early science-fiction films. A new Netflix adaptation inspired by the film is scheduled to premiere in 2026.
