The Sopranos is an HBO psychological crime drama created by David Chase that follows New Jersey Mafia boss Tony Soprano, played by James Gandolfini, as he struggles to balance his criminal life, family problems, and mental health while seeing therapist Dr. Jennifer Melfi. The series aired from 1999 to 2007 for six seasons and became one of the most influential shows in television history. Praised for its writing, performances, and complex look at crime and identity, “The Sopranos” won numerous awards and helped shape modern TV dramas. A prequel film, “The Many Saints of Newark,” was released in 2021 and explored Tony Soprano’s younger years.
