It’s official enough that the development of ‘The Batman Part 2’ is turning out to be extremely difficult. The movie was originally announced in April 2022, with Robert Pattinson and director Matt Reeves returning.

Mattson Tomlin joined as co-writer in August. Since then the movie was delayed two times by two years in total. The film was first called The Batman – Part II but lost its title by December 2024 as Reeves kept working on the script, a script that is, going by the official statements, still not done.

Jeffrey Wright, Andy Serkis, and Colin Farrell will return as Gordon, Alfred, and Penguin. Filming is set to start in late 2025 at Warner Bros. Studios in England. The movie is scheduled to release in the U.S. on October 1, 2027.

Now with the lack of official news and information regarding the upcoming sequel, we have to turn to other sources. Some new information has been posted on Warner Bros. Spain’s website and they hint (confirm) the title change and some other details.

The website lists the movie as “Untitled Batman Film” instead of its previously known title, The Batman: Part II. This change, noticed as of March 21, could suggest several possibilities: title change, placeholder listing, or rather a potential rebranding.

The genre listing for the movie also now includes Sci-Fi and Fantasy, whereas the first film was only categorized as Action/Adventure. This change raises interesting questions about the sequel’s tone and direction and possibly hints at fantastical elements being added, something that Reeves was opposed to in the past.

Reeves’ Batman universe is extremely grounded, going as far as to change Penguin’s name in the show from Oswald Cobblepot to Oz Cobb to make it more grounded and realistic.

In any case, all we can do at this point is speculate. As far as we know the script is still not ready and it’s going to be a while before we hear any solid details and leaks regarding the movie’s plot.
