The BB Reports from ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ Were Real People, Directors Reveal

The first season of Daredevil: Born Again is over, and the fans are satisfied. This was a successful revival of the popular series, and while much darker than anything we’ve seen in the MCU up to this point, the series was welcomed by both new and old fans.
The series managed to retain the feeling of the original series, but it also brought something new to the table, which is why everyone was so welcoming to it. Now that it is over, the people behind the project are revealing more information ahead of the second season.
In a recent interview, Justin Benson, Jeffrey Nachmanoff, and Aaron Moorhead discussed the season behind them, and they revealed an interesting fact about the now-famous BB Report segment from the series that we found very interesting!
As you know, The BB Report segment is a piece of news created by BB Urich in the series. We’ve seen people on the streets and they were interviewed like when you see real-life reports on TV, like on CNN for example. In that aspect, The BB Report segment was something that added a touch of realism to the superhero series, and it was well received by the fans. And it turns out there is a really great reason why these segments looked so real.
“The BB Report was something Justin and Aaron proposed, and I ended up being tasked with going around with two terrific independent filmmakers, Sean [Dunne] and Cass [Marie Greener], of Very Ape Productions,” Nachmanoff revealed. “They were sent out as a team, and for legal reasons, they needed to have a DGA director go with them. So I made a couple suggestions, but they were the ones really running it.”
“It was like going back to film school; it was run and gun. They went around New York, and they talked to these people that they had found. So it ended up being a really fun way to integrate the real streets of New York in the Marvel universe, which I’ve never seen done in a Marvel show before,” he concluded.
While Benson praised Marvel for actually allowing such a segment in the show, Moorhead was more detailed. “Sean and Cass are the best documentarians we’ve ever met. They make these documentaries that are unlike anything else; they’re just so real,” he said. “So we wanted that for Daredevil: Born Again, and we worked together to basically shoot a documentary that takes place on the streets of Wilson Fisk’s New York. They ran around and interviewed people, and most of it was completely unscripted.”
“There was a script, but then they’d start riffing to see how they feel about vigilantes or anything else that might come out of their mouths. “Imagine the mayor is doing a lockdown. How do you feel about that?” So Sean and Cass just know how to capture real people,” he finally added.
