The Fate of Burberry: Does the Dog Die in ‘Beef’ Season 2?
As with the first season of Netflix’s hit anthology series, Beef Season 2 thrives on a relentless “butterfly effect.” A minor slight escalates into a cycle of revenge that leaves lives in ruins—and in this installment, the collateral damage includes the four-legged variety.
If you are watching the new season and find yourself anxious every time the camera lingers on the adorable Dachshund, Burberry, here is the breakdown of what happens.
Does Burberry Die?
The short answer is yes, the original Burberry does die.
The tragedy begins in Episode 4, when Ashley (Cailee Spaeny) breaks into the high-end home of Josh (Oscar Isaac) and Lindsay (Carey Mulligan). In her haste to escape after planting evidence of Josh’s infidelity, she leaves a screen door slightly ajar.
By Episode 5, the couple discovers their beloved pet has vanished. The search ends in a harrowing sequence where Lindsay finds Burberry in the hills, caught in the jaws of a coyote. While Lindsay manages to kill the predator in a fit of primal rage and rushes Burberry to an emergency vet, the damage is done. The vet informs them that the injuries are non-survivable, and the dog is put to rest.
The “Burberry II” Twist
In true Beef fashion, the death of the dog isn’t just a moment of grief—it becomes a tool for further manipulation.
To maintain appearances and deal with their mounting guilt, Josh and Lindsay eventually adopt a “replacement” Dachshund from a local shelter. This second dog is also named Burberry, effectively acting as a living ghost of the pet they lost.
- Does the second dog survive? Yes.
- Where is it now? In the season finale, as Josh prepares to flee to South Korea to escape the fallout of his actions, he drops the second Burberry off with his sister.
While Beef is known for its dark comedy, the scenes involving the coyote attack in Episode 5 are particularly visceral and may be upsetting for viewers sensitive to animal distress. Unlike the first season, which focused primarily on human-to-human destruction, Season 2 uses the loss of a pet to highlight how the protagonists’ narcissism and feuds ultimately destroy the innocent things they claim to love most.
