A new chapter in the world of The Godfather is on the way, but it probably will not involve Francis Ford Coppola behind the camera again. According to reporting from The Hollywood Reporter, a new novel tied to the famous crime saga is set to arrive in 2027, and it could open the door for another film adaptation from Paramount Pictures.

The upcoming book is titled Connie and is written by Adriana Trigiani. It has been authorized by the Mario Puzo estate and is scheduled for release in fall 2027. The story will focus on Connie Corleone, the only daughter of Vito Corleone, giving the classic crime family story a new point of view that has not been explored in depth before.

According to sources cited by The Hollywood Reporter, the novel was part of an eight-way publishing auction, which shows how much interest there still is in expanding the world created by Mario Puzo. The book will be published by Random House.

What makes the project more important for Hollywood is that Paramount now holds the film rights. That comes from a long-standing legal arrangement tied to Puzo’s original 1969 novel.

When Paramount bought the rights back then, it secured control over future adaptations tied to the franchise. After Puzo’s death in 1999, disputes over later books led to legal battles, which eventually ended in a settlement. The result is that the Puzo estate can continue publishing new novels, but Paramount gets first access to adapt them for film.

That system is what makes Connie a potential new movie. However, one major name is unlikely to be involved if that happens.

A representative for Francis Ford Coppola told The Hollywood Reporter that it is “unlikely” the 87-year-old director will return to direct another entry in the franchise. While fans may have hoped for his comeback, his involvement now appears very doubtful.

Coppola directed the original The Godfather trilogy, which is widely considered one of the most influential film series in cinema history. The first film, released in 1972, helped define modern crime storytelling on screen. Its sequels, released in 1974 and 1990, expanded the Corleone family saga and cemented Coppola’s legacy as a filmmaker.

Even though interest in the franchise remains strong, especially with a new female-led perspective in Connie, the likelihood of Coppola returning is low. The report also notes that he is currently focused on other projects, including a film titled Glimpses of the Moon.

Still, the combination of a new book, a major publishing deal, and Paramount’s film rights suggests that The Godfather universe is far from finished. Whether or not Coppola is involved, Hollywood seems ready to revisit the Corleone family once again, this time through a different lens.
