Emily Blunt has worked with some of the biggest names in Hollywood, but one co-star left a lasting impression on her early in her career. Long before she became a global star, Blunt spoke openly about an actress she truly admired and called “wonderful.”

Back in 2005, Blunt gave an interview to the Australian outlet The Age while promoting My Summer of Love. During that conversation, she couldn’t stop praising someone she had just finished working with. She described the actress as frighteningly smart and said she was a true artist.

That actress was Susan Sarandon. The two worked together on the 2006 psychological thriller Irresistible. In the film, Blunt played Mara, a deeply disturbing character who becomes obsessed with Sarandon’s character and begins tormenting her family. It was a dark and intense role, and very different from the parts Blunt had taken on before.

Speaking to The Age, Blunt made it clear how much the experience meant to her. She said working alongside Sarandon pushed her in ways she had never experienced before. At the time, Sarandon was already a respected Hollywood icon, known for decades of powerful performances.

Since then, both careers have only grown bigger. Sarandon continued taking on strong roles in films like The Lovely Bones and built a legacy that spans generations. Blunt went on to become one of the most versatile stars in the industry, with standout performances in The Devil Wears Prada, Edge of Tomorrow, and the A Quiet Place films.

As of February, Emily Blunt is having one of the busiest years of her career. She recently earned awards attention for her performance in the A24 drama The Smashing Machine, where she starred opposite Dwayne Johnson. The film was released late last year and quickly became a critical hit.

She is also returning to one of her most famous roles. The Devil Wears Prada 2 is set for release in May, with Blunt’s character now portrayed as a powerful executive who holds leverage over Miranda Priestly. Fans have already begun speculating about how the power dynamic will shift this time.

Only weeks later, Blunt will appear in Steven Spielberg’s new sci-fi film Disclosure Day, releasing June 12. In the movie, she plays a meteorologist caught in the middle of a global alien event.

Susan Sarandon is also being celebrated this year. She is scheduled to receive the International Goya Award on February 28 in Barcelona, honoring her extraordinary career and lasting impact on film.

Do you think Emily Blunt’s character in The Devil Wears Prada sequel will finally get the upper hand on Miranda Priestly after all these years? Share your thoughts in the comments.
