The horror film Obsession, directed by Curry Barker, is still getting attention for one specific moment that has already become infamous among fans.

At first, Obsession might look like a strange romantic thriller with a supernatural twist. But viewers quickly find out it is much darker than expected. The film leans fully into horror, with intense violence and disturbing scenes. Barker, who also wrote and edited the movie, made a clear choice to push the story into extreme territory instead of playing it safe.

One scene in particular has become the focus of online discussion. In it, the character Nikki, played by Inde Navarrette, appears outside a car window and violently attacks another woman.

She smashes through the glass, grabs the victim, and repeatedly slams her head into the steering wheel many times in a brutal sequence. The scene is so graphic that it became one of the most shocking moments in the film. According to Barker, the original version of this moment was even longer, but it had to be cut down to avoid an NC-17 rating.

Even in its theatrical form, the scene remains extremely intense. Fans of the film have described it as one of the most extreme horror moments in recent years. Because of this, the sequence has taken on a life of its own online. Horror fans are now calling it a kind of “lost” moment, since they believe they are not seeing the full version Barker originally shot.

Curry Barker himself has acknowledged that there is more footage from the film that did not make the final cut. In an interview with Popternative, he spoke about the possibility of revisiting the material in the future.

He said, “I would love to do a director’s cut of this just because there’s so many things that are not in the movie. That would be really fun. But it would literally be a project for me. I would have to set aside some time to really dive into the footage again. It would have to be something that Focus [Features] really wants and I would be like, ‘Yes, let’s do it.’”

The director’s comments have only increased interest in the possibility of an extended version. Fans are especially curious about the original cut of the head smash scene, which has become the most talked-about moment in the entire film. Many believe a full director’s cut would likely restore more of the intensity that was trimmed for theaters.

The success of Obsession has also made the idea more realistic. The film has reportedly earned over 74 million dollars worldwide after opening at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 5, 2025, in the Midnight Madness section. It later released in U.S. theaters on May 15, 2026, through Focus Features.

The story follows Bear, played by Michael Johnston, a young man who discovers a supernatural object that grants wishes. When he uses it to make his childhood friend Nikki love him, things quickly turn into chaos. The cast also includes Cooper Tomlinson, Megan Lawless, and Andy Richter.

With its strong box office performance and growing fan interest, talk of a director’s cut continues to build. Barker has not confirmed anything yet, but his comments suggest that more footage could eventually surface if the opportunity comes.
