The Margot Robbie and Bradley Cooper-Led ‘Ocean’s Eleven’ Prequel Gets New Plot Details
Warner Bros has revealed new details about its upcoming “Ocean’s” prequel during CinemaCon in Las Vegas. The announcement is part of the studio’s wider 2027 film lineup, which also includes several major releases such as a new Superman project and other big studio titles.
According to Variety, the new film is called “Oceans” and will be led by Margot Robbie and directed by Bradley Cooper, who also stars in it. The story moves away from the modern-day casino setting and instead goes back in time to explore the past of the Ocean family.
The film will focus on the parents of Danny Ocean, the character made famous by George Clooney in the earlier films. The story is set in the early 1960s and takes place around the time of the Monaco Grand Prix. The plot involves a major heist during the famous race weekend.
Margot Robbie described the idea during the CinemaCon presentation. She said, “Before Danny Ocean ever stepped foot in Vegas, two masterminds taught him everything he knows—his parents. You’ll see them in their prime, and in our new movie, pulling off an epic heist at the 1962 Monaco Grand Prix.”
The setting places the story in Monaco during a time when Formula 1 racing was very different from today. The 1962 Grand Prix was part of the early Formula 1 world championship era, with fewer cars finishing races and many well-known drivers competing on street circuits. The event is known for its history and strong competition.
The film will likely mix the glamour of Monaco with a high-stakes robbery story. While exact details of the target in the heist have not been shared, the idea is centered on a big criminal plan taking place during a crowded and wealthy race weekend.
This project also connects to a wider expansion of the “Ocean’s” franchise. Warner Bros is also developing another film, “Ocean’s Fourteen,” which could bring back the original cast, including George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, Julia Roberts, and Don Cheadle. That project is expected to start filming soon if plans move forward.
With “Oceans” set in the past and “Ocean’s Fourteen” moving into the present timeline, the studio appears to be building two different directions for the franchise at the same time.
This prequel has a strong setting. The Monaco Grand Prix in the 1960s is a stylish and intense backdrop for a heist story. It also gives the franchise a fresh direction instead of repeating old ideas. The success will depend on how well the film balances character story and the heist itself.
