The New Scooby-Doo Has Been Revealed, and the Internet Is Freaking Out
Netflix has officially given fans their first real look at Scooby-Doo in the upcoming live-action series Scooby-Doo: Origins, and the reaction online has already been strong.
The series is still in production in Atlanta, Georgia, but Netflix has now confirmed its release window for 2027. Along with that announcement, the platform also released a short teaser and the first image of Scooby-Doo, marking the first time fans can see how the iconic character will look in this new live-action version.
The teaser itself is short but playful. It begins from the point of view of a running dog. The sound of paws hitting the ground builds up, mixed with excited barking in the background. After a few seconds, Scooby-Doo is revealed on screen. He is then seen jumping into the arms of Shaggy, who is played by Tanner Hagen. The clip ends with Scooby letting out one final bark before cutting away.
This new version of Scooby-Doo is especially different because it is the first time the character is being portrayed as a real dog in a live-action television series. In past versions of the franchise, Scooby-Doo has always been animated, even in live-action films where CGI was used. This new approach aims to give the character a more grounded and realistic feel.
The story of Scooby-Doo: Origins is also a fresh take on the well-known mystery formula. It follows Shaggy and Daphne during their final summer at camp, where they unexpectedly get caught up in a strange case involving a lost Great Dane puppy. That puppy may have witnessed a mysterious death linked to supernatural events.
As the story develops, the group slowly comes together. Velma, played by Mckenna Grace, and Freddy, played by Maxwell Jenkins, join the investigation. Together, they begin uncovering clues that lead them into a much larger and more dangerous mystery than they first expected.
The series will explore how the famous mystery-solving team first formed. Netflix describes it as a modern reimagining of the classic franchise, mixing familiar characters with a darker and more serious tone. While it keeps the core group intact, the story focuses more on suspense and mystery rather than simple cartoon-style adventures.
Another cast member in the series is Paul Walter Hauser, although his role has not yet been revealed. Netflix has kept his character details secret, adding more curiosity around the show.
The Scooby-Doo franchise has been a major part of pop culture for more than 50 years. It was originally created by Joe Ruby and Ken Spears and first aired in 1969. Since then, it has grown into a global brand with many animated series, films, and spin-offs across different formats.
Now, with Scooby-Doo: Origins heading toward its 2027 release, Netflix is trying something new by blending nostalgia with a more realistic style. The teaser has already sparked interest among fans who are curious to see how this version will develop over time.
With production ongoing and more updates expected, the series is shaping up to be one of Netflix’s more talked-about upcoming releases in the coming years.
