‘The Odyssey’ Star Anne Hathaway Wants to Join ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’ Season 2 — and We Are Loving the Idea

The story of Obi-Wan Kenobi is far from finished in the eyes of many Star Wars fans. While Disney+’s 2022 series finally explored the emotional years between the prequel trilogy and the original 1977 movie, there is still a large part of the Jedi Master’s life that remains untold.

Now, the possibility of returning to that era is gaining new attention, with Ewan McGregor once again sharing his interest in playing Obi-Wan and actress Anne Hathaway revealing that she would love to be part of a potential second season.

During a recent Esquire interview featuring McGregor, Hathaway expressed interest in joining the Star Wars universe through an Obi-Wan Kenobi continuation. While no official season 2 has been announced by Lucasfilm, the idea has already sparked excitement among fans who would like to see new characters introduced into Obi-Wan’s hidden years.

McGregor has also continued to make it clear that he believes there are more stories waiting to be told. The actor, who first played the Jedi in the 1999 film The Phantom Menace, has said the period between the end of Revenge of the Sith and Obi-Wan’s appearance in A New Hope still has plenty of unexplored material.

The Disney+ series showed Obi-Wan living in isolation on Tatooine after losing his student Anakin Skywalker to the dark side. The show focused on his emotional struggles, his broken connection with the Jedi Order, and his eventual return to action.

However, the timeline still leaves around a decade of Obi-Wan’s life untouched before Alec Guinness’s version of the character appears in the original Star Wars film.

McGregor has previously explained why that time period interests him so much. He described Obi-Wan’s exile as a fascinating chapter because the character audiences know as a wise and confident Jedi had to first go through a period of loss and doubt.

According to Obi-Wan Kenobi creator Deborah Chow, McGregor was already thinking about another season while filming the first one. Chow revealed that McGregor believed there were “another 10 years with plenty of stories” left to explore after completing the first season.

The actor has also pointed out that there is still a realistic window for him to return. McGregor has said he has time before reaching the same age Alec Guinness was when he played Obi-Wan in 1977, meaning the timeline could still work for another story.

His passion for the role has remained strong over the years. McGregor has said he would love another opportunity to play Obi-Wan and believes it could happen someday after spending more than two decades connected to the character.

For fans, the appeal of another season is clear. The first series proved there was interest in seeing a more vulnerable version of Obi-Wan, rather than only the calm Jedi Master audiences met in the original trilogy.

Still, there is currently no confirmation from Lucasfilm that Obi-Wan Kenobi Season 2 is happening. McGregor’s comments and Hathaway’s interest are only hopes at this stage, not official plans.

Even so, the continued support from the actor and growing fan demand suggest Obi-Wan’s story may not be finished yet. After all these years, the Jedi Master’s missing years on Tatooine still have plenty of secrets left to reveal.
