Netflix has a new obsession brewing for fans of tense family dramas wrapped in mystery, and it comes in the form of ‘The Truthers.’ The Spanish psychological thriller lands with a premise that digs into paranoia, grief, and the terrifying possibility that the danger you fear most might already be living under your roof.

Coming from the creative minds behind ‘Elite,’ this film promises the kind of slow burn tension that keeps you second guessing every character’s motives. With a release date now locked in and a trailer already making the rounds, here is everything worth knowing about ‘The Truthers’ before it hits Netflix.

‘The Truthers’ Release Date

The Truthers will premiere globally on Netflix on July 24, 2026. That timing places it right in the middle of a packed summer slate for the streamer, giving it a real shot at climbing the platform’s most watched charts if word of mouth builds quickly.

Netflix officially released the first trailer for the film on June 16, 2026. The rollout followed the pattern Netflix typically uses for its international original films, building buzz weeks ahead of the actual streaming debut.

The film runs for one hour and forty six minutes and carries a TV-MA rating, with the genre listed as drama and thriller. That runtime keeps things tight, which fits the tense, claustrophobic setup fans are already anticipating.

‘The Truthers’ Cast

The film stars Jose Coronado, known for Wrong Side of the Tracks and Rotten Legacy, alongside Stéphanie Magnin, recognizable from La fiera and La moderna. Coronado in particular has built a reputation for playing morally complicated characters, which makes him a natural fit for this role.

Rounding out the cast are Fanny Gautier, known for Olympo and Mía es la venganza, playing Lucía, and Alberto Olmo, known for Bad Influence and Love in Difficult Times, playing Arón. Netflix also lists Mabel Del Pozo among the principal cast, though her character has not been named on every regional title page.

Public credits additionally list Israel Ruiz as Doctor Velasco and Olaya Lopez as a police officer, though Netflix has not published fuller descriptions for these supporting roles. That leaves a bit of mystery around how deep these side characters actually run in the story, something viewers will likely only piece together once the film drops.

‘The Truthers’ Plot

‘The Truthers’ follows Ruth, a 30 year old woman who returns to her childhood home after years of estrangement when her mother dies under mysterious circumstances. Ruth is actually a Berlin based DJ, which adds an extra layer of displacement to her sudden return to a place she has clearly tried to leave behind.

Despite the years apart, her return forces a reunion with her father Martín, who since retiring has become increasingly grumpy, reclusive, aggressive, and fixated on a conspiracy theory. That obsession is essentially what turns Martín into what the film itself labels a truther, and it is the emotional engine driving the entire story.

Their already hostile bond only grows more strained as Martín’s erratic behavior escalates, leaving Ruth to wonder whether her father may have had something to do with her mother’s death. The core question hanging over the film is a chilling one, whether the real threat is coming from outside the family or from someone already sharing the house.

Behind ‘The Truthers’ Production

The film is produced by El Desorden Crea and directed by Roger Gual, known for Gangs of Galicia and The Mess You Leave Behind. The screenplay marks the joint return of Carlos Montero and Darío Madrona, who previously worked together on ‘Elite,’ and both also serve as executive producers alongside Diego Betancor.

Juana Jiménez handled the cinematography for the project. The film’s score comes from Nico Casal, rounding out a creative team clearly built to deliver mood over spectacle.

Filming took place across Asturias and Madrid, as well as in Berlin. That spread of locations lines up with Ruth’s own backstory, giving the production a chance to visually separate her adopted life abroad from the tension waiting for her back home.

Critic reactions are still trickling in, but early word suggests a mixed but intrigued response. One early review praised the conspiracy driven plot but felt the film needed a bit more edge and a tighter pace to really land emotionally.

With a premise this loaded, from grief and estrangement to conspiracy theories tearing a family apart, ‘The Truthers’ seems built for exactly the kind of post watch debate Netflix thrives on. Once you have seen it, would you have trusted Martín, or were you convinced from the start that Ruth was living with more danger than she realized?
