The Witcher season 4 is out now on Netflix, and while it reached number two on the English TV chart, early numbers show a big drop in viewership compared to previous seasons.

According to Netflix’s press release on the TUDUM site, the new season scored 7.4 million views in its first four days.

“Those looking for a more magical and mature spooky-weekend watch indulged in the new season of The Witcher, casting its spell at No. 2 on the English TV list with 7.4 million views. Season 4 introduces Liam Hemsworth as Geralt of Rivia, the monster hunter for hire, as he, Ciri (Freya Allan), and Yennefer (Anya Chalotra) are now scattered across the continent. Also new this season is Laurence Fishburne, who joins the cast as Regis,” Netflix said.

While 7.4 million sounds strong, it is far below the numbers for past seasons. Season 2 picked up 18.5 million views in its first week, and season 3 had 15.2 million.

Samba TV also reported a drop in US viewership. They said the first episode of season 4 was watched by 577,000 households in the US, 35% fewer than season 3, which had 885,000.

Rotten Tomatoes scores show that season 4 is currently the lowest-rated season of the series. The Tomatometer sits at 58% based on 24 critic reviews, while the audience score is 20% from more than 1,000 ratings.

For context, Netflix has no daily or weekly top 10 data for season 1, which premiered in 2019. Back then, the only available stat was how many people watched at least two minutes of the show. Season 1 reportedly had 76 million viewers, ranking it behind Bridgerton season 1 and ahead of Maid at the time.

Other comparisons show that The Witcher: Blood Origin had 1.3 million US households watching in its first eight days, while season 2’s US premiere weekend drew 804,000 households.
