Tom Hanks Reveals the Most Popular Movie Quotes Fans Shout at Him
Tom Hanks says fans still shout some of his most famous movie lines at him in public, and he has gotten used to it over the years. The comments came during a recent interview reported by the New York Post, where the actor talked about how often his film career follows him in real life.
Hanks said he never really knows which line someone will use when they recognize him on the street. Still, he says he feels lucky that so many of his films have become part of everyday pop culture.
“I’m kind of lucky that there are a lot of phrases that people just shout at me,” he said.
The actor then shared a list of the quotes he hears the most. These include lines from several of his biggest films. People often shout “Run!” from “Forrest Gump,” “I wish I was big” from “Big,” “Wilson!” from “Cast Away,” “Brace for impact” from “Sully,” and “Houston, we have a problem” from “Apollo 13.”
These films cover a wide part of his career, from emotional drama to adventure and comedy. Hanks said it is interesting that so many different roles still follow him decades later, even when he is just going about his normal day.
The interview also took place during a red carpet event for the Broadway show “Celebrity Autobiography,” where Hanks appeared alongside his wife Rita Wilson. While speaking to reporters there, he also explained why he has no plans to ever write a memoir.
He said the reason is simple. His family would not let him get away with it. “Because I have too many family members who would literally camp out at my door with copies of the book and underline parts and say, ‘You described this moment completely wrong.’ I don’t want to put myself in that situation,” he said.
Even without a memoir, Hanks continues to stay active in film work. He is also preparing for a return to one of his most famous roles. He will once again voice Woody in Toy Story 5, which is set to release on June 19.
Hanks spoke about how long he has been involved with the franchise and how surprising its success has been. He said he and co-star Tim Allen never expected it to last this long.
“None of us could have imagined it. You know, Tim Allen and I walked into the Disney studio in 1991, which seemed like some kind of crazy prank at the time, and we still go into that same studio today and work on something that is incredible, almost incomprehensible to us,” he said.
He added that even after decades of working on the films, the experience still feels unreal at times. “Sometimes we have to pinch ourselves to make sure that we are really a part of something that has been going on for so long,” Hanks said.
From street encounters to long-running franchises, Hanks’ career continues to stay present in both his work and everyday life. Fans keep reminding him of his most famous moments, and he seems to take it all in stride.
