That combination effectively makes this Holland’s biggest summer at the box office to date, with two separate projects simultaneously ranking among the year’s, and in some cases all-time’s, most successful releases.

‘The Odyssey,’ Nolan’s sprawling adaptation of Homer’s ancient epic starring Matt Damon as Odysseus, features Holland in a supporting role alongside Anne Hathaway and Robert Pattinson. The film has already become Nolan’s highest-grossing release ever, while also standing as the second-highest-grossing R-rated film in history behind only ‘Deadpool & Wolverine.’

‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day,’ meanwhile, continues Holland’s leading role as Peter Parker in Sony and Marvel’s fourth solo Spider-Man film, following the character’s life after the memory-erasing events of ‘No Way Home.’ The film has spent nearly every week since its late July release breaking box office records, from the biggest domestic opening ever to becoming the second-fastest movie in history to cross $1 billion worldwide.

That the two films are climbing the charts simultaneously speaks to just how differently each project has captured audience attention. ‘The Odyssey’ has drawn praise for its technical ambition as the first movie ever shot entirely with IMAX cameras, while ‘Brand New Day’ has leaned into record-breaking franchise momentum and widespread audience enthusiasm, reflected in its 98 percent Verified Hot score on Rotten Tomatoes’ Popcornmeter.

Having two films cross the billion-dollar threshold in the same summer places Holland in genuinely rare company among working actors. Both projects still have significant theatrical runway left as well, with ‘The Odyssey’ yet to open in China and ‘Brand New Day’ continuing to add new daily and weekly records to its already extensive list of achievements.
