Tom Holland’s Two Blockbusters Are Both Climbing Cinema’s Billionaire Box Office Club

Tom Holland has become the rare actor whose summer includes not one but two films simultaneously climbing into the ranks of cinema’s biggest earners. Between his continued role as Peter Parker and a supporting turn in Christopher Nolan’s latest epic, Holland has quietly positioned himself at the center of two of the year’s biggest theatrical phenomena at once.

Both projects opened within weeks of each other, and both have spent the summer defying typical box office expectations. That kind of overlapping success for a single actor across two entirely different franchises is rare enough to warrant its own headline, and the numbers behind it only make the story more striking.

According to Deadline, ‘The Odyssey’ has now reached $1.1 billion globally, while ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ has climbed even higher, sitting at $1.67 billion worldwide, placing both films firmly within cinema’s exclusive billionaire box office club. That combination effectively makes this Holland’s biggest summer at the box office to date, with two separate projects simultaneously ranking among the year’s, and in some cases all-time’s, most successful releases.

‘The Odyssey,’ Nolan’s sprawling adaptation of Homer’s ancient epic starring Matt Damon as Odysseus, features Holland in a supporting role alongside Anne Hathaway and Robert Pattinson. The film has already become Nolan’s highest-grossing release ever, while also standing as the second-highest-grossing R-rated film in history behind only ‘Deadpool & Wolverine.’

‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day,’ meanwhile, continues Holland’s leading role as Peter Parker in Sony and Marvel’s fourth solo Spider-Man film, following the character’s life after the memory-erasing events of ‘No Way Home.’ The film has spent nearly every week since its late July release breaking box office records, from the biggest domestic opening ever to becoming the second-fastest movie in history to cross $1 billion worldwide.

That the two films are climbing the charts simultaneously speaks to just how differently each project has captured audience attention. ‘The Odyssey’ has drawn praise for its technical ambition as the first movie ever shot entirely with IMAX cameras, while ‘Brand New Day’ has leaned into record-breaking franchise momentum and widespread audience enthusiasm, reflected in its 98 percent Verified Hot score on Rotten Tomatoes’ Popcornmeter.

Having two films cross the billion-dollar threshold in the same summer places Holland in genuinely rare company among working actors. Both projects still have significant theatrical runway left as well, with ‘The Odyssey’ yet to open in China and ‘Brand New Day’ continuing to add new daily and weekly records to its already extensive list of achievements.

That combined success underscores just how significant a moment this has become for Holland’s career, bridging his established blockbuster franchise with a prestige awards contender from one of the industry’s most respected filmmakers. With both films still climbing and neither showing clear signs of slowing down, Holland’s summer box office haul could continue growing well into the fall.
