‘Tracker’ Star Jensen Ackles Admits Johnny Depp’s ‘Mega Pint’ Moment Interrupted His Sleep, and He Means It as a Compliment
Convention panels have a way of pulling unexpectedly candid stories out of actors. Away from the scripted promotion of a film set or a press junket, a casual question from a fan can turn into a window onto what a performer is really thinking. Jensen Ackles has just delivered one of the more surprising examples of the season.
The ‘Supernatural’ and ‘The Boys’ star was a headline guest at Comic Con Scotland, which took over the Royal Highland Centre near Edinburgh on October 24 and 25. He appeared alongside his longtime co-star Misha Collins, and the 2 of them closed the event with the final panel. The lineup also included Mark Sheppard, Jim Beaver, Rob Benedict, Ruth Connell, Mark Pellegrino and DJ Qualls.
During that panel, Ackles revealed that he had recently been woken up by a dream about Johnny Depp’s viral “mega pint” moment. Footage from the event shows him reflecting on the clip with genuine admiration rather than simply laughing at it. In his telling, he was struck by how much Depp managed to communicate with so few words, which he described as a gift.

For anyone who missed the internet frenzy, the phrase comes from the 2022 defamation trial between Depp and Amber Heard. A video shown in court depicted Depp slamming kitchen cabinets and then pouring himself a large glass of red wine. Heard’s attorney, Ben Rottenborn, asked whether he had poured a “mega pint” of wine, and Depp’s amused, incredulous reply of “A mega pint?” became an instant meme.
The clip spread widely, inspiring jokes, merchandise and even forced-perspective images of gigantic wine glasses. It also had a later twist. A Netflix docuseries on the trial pointed to a transcript from Depp’s 2020 UK trial showing he had used the phrase himself before the attorney did. The Virginia jury ultimately ruled in Depp’s favor on his defamation claims, though the trial dealt with serious domestic violence allegations, which has led some to question the way it became mass entertainment.
The reaction among ‘Supernatural’ fans was immediate. Clips of the panel spread quickly, with viewers joking that they finally knew what goes on inside Ackles’ head, and the answer apparently involves a mega pint and Depp. Another clip showed Ackles and Collins discussing the phrase together, a reminder that even famous actors have random thoughts.
That kind of unfiltered banter is a big part of why the ‘Supernatural’ conventions remain so popular. The series ended its 15-season run in 2020, but its actors continue to attend fan events, answer endless questions and pose for photos. Moments like this one keep the fandom feeling intimate years later.
Ackles is also busy on screen. He is currently filming ‘Vought Rising’, the 1950s prequel to ‘The Boys’ on Amazon Prime, in which he reprises his role as a young Soldier Boy. The role is a big reason his beard has been missing at recent events, a change fans noticed right away.
His work as Soldier Boy introduced him to a new generation of viewers, while his time as Dean Winchester on ‘Supernatural’ made him a convention favorite. Between those roles, he has built a career on playing larger-than-life characters. A late-night dream about a courtroom meme is a lighter note from an actor best known for playing tough guys.
Ackles’ comments are also a good example of how internet moments outlive their original context. Years after the trial, the phrase is still a shared joke among fans and, apparently, a source of fascination for a celebrity who watched the clip. It is a reminder that viral memes can take on a life of their own.
